What kind of converter? Sometimes higher stall converters can lessen shift feel especially at low speed. Try turning in the modulator adjustment.

No, transmission vacuum modulator. Located on the passenger side of the transmission. Should be a small brass adjustable type. Looks like this,

Pull off the vacuum hose and you will see a small screw adjustment inside the opening. Use a small screwdriver to turn the adjustment screw CLOCKWISE one turn at a time.

Was the converter built for the engine or did you just buy it off the shelf or second hand? Is the engine modified?

Thanks Larry. Convertor was built for the car. ATI knows the cam compression , gears and tire size

Can you feel it shift? Is it shifting too early when driving normally? The converter will soak up some of the shift feel.

TexasT Texas, where are you from

    Who assembled the trans?
    Have you spoken with them?
As above a high stall converter will tend to soften shifts, so the accumulators or vb ad vb plate might need some tweaks to make the shifts more crisp.

I can tell you that a fixed pitch higher stall converter has a completely different feel to it then my switch pitch. My switch pitch had the 12" converter with approximate stall speeds of 3000/1800. My controller would put the converter in high stall with my foot on the brake. Off the brake, it would go to low stall and stay there until the vacuum dropped to below 5", and then the controller would put the converter back to hi stall. With the switch pitch, I could come off the brake, be in low stall, ease the gas pedal down, and the shift point from 1-2 would extend, and then chirp the tires when it did shift. If I stepped into it too much, the switch to hi stall would turn both tires and the car would go sideways. It even did that before I had the controller, and the converter remained in low stall, it would just happen closer to the top of 1st gear. If I kept the converter in hi stall, it would feel mushy and loose, and I could hardly feel the shifts. The car felt lazy like that.

The 10" fixed pitch converter I have now (3400-3600 stall according to builder) feels like a stall right in between the lo and hi stall of the SP. The car responds immediately, and doesn't feel lazy or too loose. The shifts are there, and I can feel them, but they are noticeably softer than they were with the SP. I can't easily extend the shift points like I could with the tight lo stall of the SP. If I step into it now, it just turns the tires. Right now, my shift points during normal light to light driving is 1-2 at about 12 MPH, and 2-3 at 28 MPH. It will shift there even at moderate throttle, and if I step on it too much, it just destroys the tires. When I needed to access my full throttle shift points, I needed to put the Drag Radials on. No way I could test it with the regular street radials. Even at full throttle at the shift point, the shifts are less noticeable.

That makes me understand a little more. I hope I get this dailed in . I guess I expected this car to launch more aggressive than it does. I have radials on this car now. Would Firestones bias ply hook up better
