How does the gas pedal attach?

Recently, my gas pedal decided to part company with the linkage. Yeah, it got a bit edgy on the road when that happened!

I'm currently driving with a foot on what seems to be a moveable plastic bushing on the rod it attaches to (not sure of the exact name of these bits, but you get the idea) .. not cool. I have a 1968 vintage parts booklet for body shops that shows what seems like every bit of a 68 Wildcat EXCEPT the pedals.

How does the actual pedal attach to the linkage rod??

I could not find what I would expect to find after it broke, and suspect as the pedal was loose underfoot it was somehow bodged. Boy, this car was full of bodges....most of which are now ironed out.

Anyone got a photo of the exact parts diagram, or even of the underside (bolt/bushing) of their Wildcat/LeSabre gas pedal ??

    Thanks for any help!

If its anything like my '61 the pedal doesn't actually attach to the linkage. The pedal pops onto two stainless studs that project out of the floor. The pedal just kind of rests against the linkage on a plastic slide.

That's exactly how I remember it was mounted in the long gone 68 Electra I used to have. Not uncommon for age and normal use to wear the rubber sockets at the pedal bottom.

Sounds like your in it for a new or rather another gas pedal. Try the bone yards or Ebay...Good Luck

Thanks guys. You are dead right.......studs on the floor!! I will watch and see if this comes loose quick, and if so, will spring for a new pedal. Cheers
