I do not like the idea of drilling holes to install a chapman like lock. Especially since most of the time the car is in garage or i will be in sight of it. On my 67camaro, I literally used a chain and Master padlock. Any thoughts?

99% of the population doesn't know how to open hoods on our cars , not the age group that's out stealing stuff anyway

It's in the garage. But seriously - back in the day when I was 30 years younger and kept the GSX out in the elements I ran a cable through the hood and around the core support with a small padlock.

I like what hugger says though; he's mostly correct.

I guess you could remove the hood latch pull handle off the latch mechanism and keep it in the glove box. When you want to open the hood, you will have to hook the handle into the hole on the mech and pull.

Even I would have a hard time opening a GS hood without the pull handle attached

The first car I owned, a 1970 LeSabre, (during a time when batteries would disappear on the regular) as luck would have it, the handle to open my hood broke off, as stated before, it was great security device.
    1- you needed the handle.
2- you needed to know where to hook it.

Years ago, in my late teens, I had a 67 Mustang convertible and lived down the Jersey shore for the summers. I was always afraid of someone stealing the car so I developed a hood locking system.

My Dad had some stainless plate & round stock laying around, so I made a "u" shaped box and put the rod thru it. I drilled 2 holes in the box. The back hole was a regular round hole, but I put a slanted oval slot on the front. I bolted the assembly to the hood latch bracket, and the rod would catch the hood hook when the hood was closed all the way. I was always going to run a cable to the rod but never did. If I needed to open the hood I used a long flat screwdriver to slide the bar over and it would open regularly.

There were many times when I would come back to the car and see "evidence" of where someone was trying to open the hood with a tire iron, but it was always where I parked it. I got so good at straightening the grill bars I could have held classes.

Keep the entire car locked in the garage. Honestly, I'm with the guy that said today's crooks dont have a clue on how to open our hoods or hot wire the car. When I drive it to a store or someplace it will be unattended for a short time I dont even lock the doors and sometimes leave the windows down. Theres nothing to steal in the car and I dont want some jack ass to break a window or punch out the lock to find that out.

my outside hood cable broke on my 80 trans am in the 80's and I left it like that ,,because I was young I could lay down and reach all the way up to the hood and trip the release , I just bought a new one LOL but you can just take the 2 bolts out and remove the release latch and let the rod hang then reach up under the bumper and pull it down if your able
