Sold a 74 Apollo GSX grille with trim recently. Need some pointers on shipping it to buyer- will USPS ship a package this large? Where can I find a box long enough? Any specific packing tips? I do plan to insure in case of damage. TIA

    Shipping a Grille

    Evans,
I always go around to the local body shops and see if they have any empty boxes, like bumpers, grilles or fenders came in.They are always glad to give them away as they just go in the dumpster.See if they have any bubble wrap too, grab all they have you'll need sometime or another.
Sometimes you might need to cut a box down to size.Just make sure you have a few inches of extra room in the box to allow for padding material around the grille.Just use newspaper, bubble wrap or something like that for padding.Fill your box up with the padding surrounding the grille then tape the box shut securely.I like to lay a layer of padding down in the bottom of the box for the grille to "rest" on.
Yes the post office will mail a grille, safer to use them than UPS on a grille anyway.Probaly cost around $20.00 or so to mail if it's going somewhere in the US.
In fact i'm mailing out a `72 Skylark Grille myself today.Going from Ky to Conneticut.
    Hope these tips help.
    Good Luck,Jeff

    AND

and insure it - always a good idea. Claims are painful, but better then a complete loss! Take pictures bfore you pack it to prove the "before" condition.

Go FEDEX ground (that is where the Post Office will send it)

Fedex has contracts with the P.O. on freight. FYI

    and it will cost less!:TU:

The last time I bought a new grille for a '70 GS (and I only paid $90 - imagine that :Dou: - I should have bought five) the grille arrived completely engulfed in a plastic bag in foam peanuts within a single GM box.

How about putting it in a 55 gallon drum and surrounding it with popcorn. Sure would like to get it in one piece

    Hi Evans,

I go to the local bike shops around and get the bike boxes they are long and you can cut and folded to make your box. The GM grille boxes came with card board to suppot the center with bubble wrap around the grille. I have double boxed them before and supported the inside box with bubble wrap.

    How's the tissue dispenser look?

Kevin, Promise I'll pack it carefully. Will try some local body shops in the next few days for a free bumper box and bubble wrap. If 55 gallon drum and popcorn wern't so cost inhibitive to ship, I'd go that route as it would be well insulated. I'll insure for the sale amount just in case of damage but hoping that it will arrive safely. Thanks again!

    Jason,

Tissue dispenser looks right at home. Thanks again for the superb piece. I'd always wanted one for my GS. I'll have to take a pic and post for you. Holes were already there under dash too. Need to find some correct Kleenex Jr tissues now as originals were pretty flakey and dusty in their original box. Anyone know where I can find this size tissue refill? With all the oil leakage my GS has, I need a larger shop towel dispenser in car! Got to get that fixed!:Dou:
