    Hotrodgss1 Aiming High!

Hello everyone! My convoy team and I have just begun our 1 year deployment in Afghanistan and we were wondering if you could help us out?

We were just issued Cougar MRAPs (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicles but they come with the same horns the old WWII Jeeps had (Meep, Meep)! When we drive on the roads we use our horns to move cars out of our way because we're constantly under threat from Vehicle Borne Inmprovised Explosive Devises (VBIEDs). Unfortunately, since our horns aren't very loud and the tone doesn't carry very far, Afghans usually don't hear us or move out of our way until we're right next to them!

I have tried repeatedly to get funding from my Higher Headquarters for many of the upgrades we need but since we're an Air Force team working for the Army, no one ever has any money to spend on us. So now I'm left with no choice but to request help from the only group of folks I know I can count on... The Buick Community!!! :3gears:

If any of you have a couple of used working Hi & Low horn sets (or any loud electric or air horns) and would like to donate them to our team, you can send them to my mailing address at:

Thankx again for all your support!!! Leo

    Leo,

I am in Moscow right now and unfortunately can't get anything out. But I will pass my request to my wife and son and I bet they will get around to Napa today after school and can get something out tomorrow.

Thank you for everything you do for us. Thank your buddies as well. If you all need anything doing be shy to ask. If it is within our means it will be our pleasure. Horns are not a problem. I assume you can get a short piece of wire to run from the meep meep ones.

    Best wishes,
    Tim

Is there anything else you could use???

candy, car/girley mags, 3 ply toliet papper, grape koolaid mix with the sugar already in it and some packets of yeats??? [last one was one I was told was a big hit with some over there.]

I have a feeling though that your gonna end up with a freightcar full of horns and hope your able to get them out to the others in need.

Would you get in trouble if you had one that played dixie????

    Everyone, thankx a bunch!

Tim, thankx a million! Oh and getting a short piece of wire here on base is easy.

70sLark, everything including the yeats (don't know what they are yet) would be awesome! Unfortunately we're not allowed to have any porn over here so as long as the good parts are covered up (Like Maxim or the SI Swimsuit issue), then the guys would LOVE them!

Wheelz, just sent you an e-mail.

    WildBill, you're the man, thankx!

Oh hehehe well the yeast goes in to koolaid, time and heat = baghdad wine
[Why it has to have sugar in the mix, grape is suppose to taste the best.]

70sLark - Oh ""Yeast"!!! Oh, that's different! Unfortunately, we can't have alcohol either, and since I'm the team leader I've got to set the example. Not to mention that my guys would eventually tell EVERYONE on base that some Buick Guys hooked them up. Next thing you know I'm getting Courts Marshalled! Honestly, I appreciate you wanting to hook us up but I gotta make sure they stay alert and on their toes when were out on the road... not to mention simply keeping them out of trouble. Everything else is absolutely fine... especially the Dixie Horn!!!

75Riv - We just went thru training on the Cougar and it's a pretty badass vehicle. Compared to the M1151 HMMWV, we're significantly more protected from IEDs. The only thing wrong with it is that it runs a fully computerized Cat Diesel engine (320Hp/850lbs ft torque). I wish I could swap them out with 1,000HP Buick Big Blocks!!! Hey TA Performance... you think you could hook us up???   Just Kidding!!!

Wildcat 4-speed - You're the man!!! Thankx sooooo much!

Once again everyone, thank you for all your support!!!

My wife got a couple in the mail today. I think she is smarter than I am. She asked if the military vehicles might be 24v systems. I guess the horns will still work, maybe crap out a little sooner than normal. Heck maybe it will really make them squawk.

75 Riv - Nice pic of you and the HMMWV! I especially like the custom bumper! I'm going to show this picture to my guys to see if they want some for our Cougars fabricated by the maintenance guys here!

Caio Bruno! I think I'm good to go with horns but I'll let you know if I need any more. I'm doing great... having the time of my life messing around with these Cougars. I'll post a picture of me and the Cougars soon. Roxanne is doing fine and so are the kids but man do I miss them!!! The convertible is doing fine... it's still locked away in my aunts garage under a cover. My uncle checks it everyday and makes sure it's alright. I can't wait to get back to the states so I can finish it. By the way, Eric wants to buy the GSX clone with the race engine and tranny you built! I'm still thinking about it. Take care of yourself and keep looking out for posts from me here on the forum!

Tim - You're wife is a genius! The Cougar runs on a 24volt system but it does have 12 volt DC power outlets I can connect the horns to. I'll need to find someone to help me figure out how to wire it in so I don't short circut the whole system! Anyone out there good with wiring diagrams??? :idea2:

    Hey there Leo,

Have fun over there. I was stationed at Camp Eggars for a year and my sister was at Pheonix at the same time. For anyone who doesn't know, where he is at is at best a dive. At least you get out and see the city.

Not sure what has changed since 07, but hit the Thai diner at the ISAF Compound and let me know if you go near the NMCC. That's where I spent most of my time.

    Good luck brother!

    Mark,

You're absolutely right... all in all this whole place is one big dive!!! I'm currently at Phoenix but I'll be operating out of Eggers soon. I've been at the Lai Thai restaurant there at Eggers and it's really good!!! Especially their fried ice cream:TU: :TU: :TU: I've seen the one at KAIA but I haven't been in there yet. Haven't heard of the NMCC yet but I'm sure I will soon. Got any hook ups over here I can talk to for support related issues???

So much of your experience over there will depend on your mission. I truly had a blast over there and once you leave Pheonix and stay at Eggars, you will see.

I lived in the mansions that were offsite of the base and hopelfully, you will end up there. The best support I had were the friends that I shot the breeze with while on my downtime. The phone banks were usually open so maintain contact, find the free numbers to call home with and if that is a problem, let me know cause I have a calling card that still has minutes and is the cheapest (like 2 cents a minute) out there.

I can give you other information if you're interested. PM but I'd rather not blast it to the public. BTW, the NMCC is the National Military Command Center located just outside Karzi's palace.

Keep safe and let us know if you need anything else to make your trip a better one.

Chris - Don't worry, I'll still get it.

Joe65SkylarkGS - A couple of weeks ago a tractor trailer almost flipped over trying to get out of our way!!! The Cougars definitely get respect on the road... especially when oncoming traffic is drifting into your lane!

Once again I'd like to thank everyone for their outstanding support. You make everyday we're out here worth it!!!
