Ugly side showing, smooth pretty side is hidden.

The smooth side is a moisture barrier and the rough side helps absorb adn reflect sound energy and heat.

Of course, is also absorbs almost all the power steering fluid when you over-rev a 330 Olds on a missed shift and all the fluid jumps out of the resivoir looking for a place to hide.

    Drip, drip, drip...

Thanks Mike!!! Boy do I know what you mean about an oil absorber. The last time I had new insulation under my hood I went through 3 "rebuilt" A6 A/C compressors from Pep Boys. Pissed me off how they destroyed my whole engine compartment. Now I have no A/C.
Hey Mike... Does your license plate mean something??? I am to dumb to decipher it.

The correct hood insulation for our cars is yellow and gray, with the gray side facing out.

If you have black/gray then that hood insulation is not correct for any of the 68-72 cars.

Also on a GS only the rear three pieces were used. Don't make the mistake on using the pieces around the scoops. I hate when I see that.

Duane, you have any of the hood insulation pads for a '72 Stage 1. Getting ready for 2017 MCACN

Sorry but they are all gone, and I have no time to do anything like that right now.

Is that true for 67 GS400's or just 68-72 GS cars? I have seen 67 GS cars and have two with the spring steel member in the center of the hood holding the insulation up so it clears the 'Star Wars' air cleaner.

At Allentown BCA in 2016 I spoke with a 67 GS 400 owner who had the spring steel piece in the middle section of his hood holding the insulation up and away from the Star Wars air cleaner. He told me they were OEM equipment but you did not see them much now because they had gotten lost over the years. GSFred on the Forum had three of the spring steel pieces and he sold me two and kept a third on for his 67.

I don't know if I have the spring steel, I will look, but my 67 has all the factory hood insulation intact still.

    Any pictures?

Here is a photo of the car at Allentown with the spring steel strap across the center insulation. Will send photos of my steel straps later today or tomorrow.
