    Good thread:TU:

I always wanted to build or buy one to put in the front window area of our NAPA store.
I think that would be cool in an auto parts store:3gears:

I had thought of the LED's but my soldering leaves a lot of room for improvement, lol.I was thinking of using 12v like trailor lights or something of that nature.something i can put together with wire nuts, and maybe a series of relays that the main on off switch powers the first relay and that would set off the next relay etc to the green.will it work?I don"t know, but in theory it would give a split sec delay between the lights.Green would stay lit until you powered off to reset. However,in my net searches I ran across this schematic Sorry but i dont have enough posts to post pix or links apparently.so if intrested cut and past

Anyway I would have to outsource this circuit more than likely, but it would be a good project for the votech kids. They get a grade and i'd get a controller.

for display you could add a loop that resets the 555 and starts it all over, just a thought...

I have looked at this post several times over the past couple years and I am going to build a tree.Your posts have been very helpful and you have done a beautiful job building it.I have a few questions like how long are each of the 3 sections of 4x4 channel,it looks like they are two 40 inch and prestage at 16 inch is this right? The next question, how did you attach the staged awning? And l how far apart did you space the lights, did you keep it as in your post?I am only doing one side lights so the lights are 11 inches apart is that correct? And last what size are the CHRONDEK letters.I love your detail curse. Thanks

My Chrondek tree thread has resurfaced!

I have some detail shots of the tree in my camera that I can send you. PM me with your name and email addy. They should be able to answer all your questions about the construction. Im out of town at the moment, but when I get back home this weekend, I'll measure the sections again and the lettering for you. Offhand, I dont remember other that the sections were a couple inches different

Good luck! I hope you have as much fun building yours as I did building mine. Keep us posted on your progress! :beer

Hello, I've been looking at this thread for awhile and your tree is neat. I'm in the process of building one now and have a few questions. What is the angle that the shades are bent at? What size is your lettering? Did you ever get the lighting done? Been talking to a guy about doing the lights and he's got them for traffic lights and he was going to check about making a controller for us but still no word. Problem he has is with the electrical draw from 4 100 watt bulbs at the same time. He mentioned LED's but they wouldn't look right. If we get something going I'll let you know. Thanks for your help.

Thanks! Glad you like it. And thanks for reviving this thread! It was one of my favorite projects. The other being the vintage go kart I restored! I got your PM. I'll have to dig the tree out of storage and take some measurements for you. I think the shades are at a 60 degree angle, but its been a while. There are a couple of thing I would do differently regarding the shades, but I will explain that after I double check the measurements for you.

I never got the tree to operate, but someone else contacted me a year or so ago and wired up his to work. I remember he sent me some impressive pictures too. He even repro-ed the Chrondek data plate decal. I'll see if I can find his email addy for you.

The lettering was called "Artbrush" and I bought it from www.greatlettering.com. I'll post up the shade dimensions tomorrow night.

Thanks, looking forward to your next post and if you have any other tips or thoughts that would be great. I'd really like to get in touch with the other person who had the functional lights.

Ok. the awnings or shades are bent at a 110 degree angle. The angled parts are 3.5" and the center is 6". They are 18" long. I think they would look better longer. Maybe 20" or 22" long instead. I would mock up 2 in cardboard and see what looks better.

As far as the other guy, I think you posted on one of his Chrondek threads on another forum where he gives you the light spacing. He built a really nice one

Well we ended up building a couple of trees. Here's one of the finished trees at the Doo Wop Show in Charleston, WV. The two T/F dragsters are the Hundley and Boggs dragster and the Hunt Family Farms car. Behind them you can see the original Rod Shop Anglia. The tree lights the staged lights and then blinks down the five ambers to green.

I need to build one of these but I only need the pre-stage and the stage lights. I have a new junior dragster driver and she and I both need practice staging the dragster. What do I need to control some thing like this? Can I modify a garage door opener with the safety sensors to do what I need? Thanks for any help.

    And it did again!
I had this in my mind since.
Just picked this up for cheap! It needs to be restored cosmetically but everything works. And is a great starting point.

I've had the Eliminator for about 20 years now...

What's cool is I can plug my Eliminator in and run it off of it. There is a mode where it will run the lights down automatically, over and over...Easy!

I am in the process of building a Chrondek Tree, I would be interested in knowing what you used for the electronic's to control the lights.

I am in the planning stage to build a Chrondek tree, I would be interested to know if you completed yours, if so, how did you handle the electronic timing on the lights?
