Hope I don't come of as too paranoid, but if all that metal was circulating with that filter looking like like it was useless, (looks like metal is inside the element as well as outside) I would be pulling all the main and rod caps while you still have that oil pan off. No easy way to check the cam bearings though. I would just hate to see you go through all the time and money to build a nice engine and then install it and have more issues.

HP 2003. There was plenty of crap in the media. Much of what you see was from cutting it open. But your right about the possible issues. Pan is back on it and ready to drop in the car.

    Talk about paranoid.
The first couple of times I opened up the system 1 filter I was like holy ****!!
All kinds of crap in there.

Really? I've never found anything in mine.

My System 1 filter has always been clean inside also. In fact I questioned whether or not it was even assembled properly. Ever since I read the Smokey Yunick "Power Secrets" book back in the late 80's I have always been over the top with cleanliness. I use a steam-clean/power-wash system to clean the blocks and crankshafts just before assembly. I feel that is a big reason why. Also the bearings always came out looking like new.
