It's in Steven Dove's book on page 80. If you don't have the book, I'll post a pic of it. Dan

    Bill, I sent it offlist.

I couldn't resize it and keep it legible. Sorry about the huge attachment. Dan

Excellent. Did you send it to BuickStreet (which has just been remodeled for anyone who cares to take a look)?

I've got broadband at home so any size attachement is ok.

Thanks and I'll post it back here when I get home.

Thanks Dan, I got the attachement and have resized it here for all to see.

Is there more to the article? Can you send me the whole article? This is a very interesting mod and I'd like to know more about it.

    Hi Bill....

I looked through the chapter and couldn't find a reference to the diagram. The chapter in Dove's book was taken from a 1971 Buick offroad application manual, and gives a number of other qjet mods. If you want, I can take pics of the good stuff, and send it to you, but you'd probably be hapier with a copy of the book. It's loaded with lots of little Buick tidbit, stats and part numbers.
I do remember seeing this diagram elsewhere with the explanation that the end of the tip should be 1/2 the diameter of the original power tip diameter and tapered evenly along the length. I didn't use a micrometer, just the old eyeball, and they came out fine with about 1/2 hour of careful filing The difference was surprising. The Stage 1 had been running well with decent response, but the new tips made it run like a turpentined cat. Dan

    Dan,
    That's a cool trick!
I've got a small box full of those rods to try that on, and a large assortment of hangers.
(years of toolbox bargains from the junkyards :Brow: )
Any info in that book about what letter hangers are best?
    Curious.

Dan, I'd like to buy the book but aren't sure where to get it. What's the title and do you know where I can get a copy? Failing that please feel free to send me any scans you take and I'll reduce them and share them here. By all means though in the meantime share anything else you might think will help us unravel this mysterious trick.

    Hi Guys,
The chapter mentioned AU rods as found in the Stage 1, but I used the set of smogger rods that were in the carb, so I wouldn't have to change jets. Bill, the book is called "Guide to Buick Gran Sports." It has a black cover with a stylized '70 grille and emblem motif on the front. I've seen them for sale in several past catalogues like Year One, as well as on ebay. If you want, I can try to hunt one down for you and send it. Dan
