Just wondering if anyone on the board here has/have purchased any type of hemp clothing or footwear? I have been doing some research and they seem to be very comfortable and long wearing/lasting. Just to be clear here I am talking about hemp, NOT marijuana! Huge difference for anyone that doesn't know. I am getting sick and tired of buying clothing that wears out in a short time. I have tried different brands like Levi, Dickies, Carhartt and others. Keith
Have no experience with the clothing, but it does make some fantastic rope. I've got to imagine the same qualities would make for great, long lasting clothing, too.
Warning. Just buy 1 shirt For starters. The hemp is more rigid, ruffer than cotton. I dont think I (me ) would like a tee shirt..
As an employee of one of the largest t-shirt makers that has been around for over 150 years, I asked the then CEO about hemp-based products a few years ago. The CEO acted like I was user, not a multi-decade employee trying to enquire about a revolutionary "new" fiber that could change the market. I also live in a state that is trying to use hemp to replace the lost tobacco money. It is struggling here. Not much market for the product yet. Farmers are disappointed and disheartened. The infrastructure isn't in place yet. There's a ways to go. I think anything hemp-based is probably coming out of Asia. As a t-shirt (and other basic apparel) manufacturer with multi-billion dollar sales, we go through a container ship load of cotton per year. We have a seat on the cotton board and can make or break our sales numbers on a good deal on cotton. So, unless some top-secret project I'm unaware of is afoot, hemp is the wonder fabric that is still searching for its niche.
Looks like decent stuff until you look at the price tag!; https://www.patagonia.com/shop/hemp-clothing?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=text%20ad&utm_campaign=Non%20Brand%20-%20Eco&msclkid=e5c772ff782c1b20536b2cb5b5236d78&utm_term=hemp%20clothes&start=0&sz=60#tile-42 https://www.tentree.com/collections/hemp-clothing?page=2 BUT, if it lasts 3x longer than cotton then the extra cost wouldn't be so bad, just need to buy one or 2 pieces and track them with the same new cotton counterpart and see which one wears out first.
