Help with idle mixture screw caps

    I found a NOS service replacement carb for my car and it has black caps on the idle mixture screws. Has anyone dealt with removing these and can offers any tips? I don’t want to damage the threads. Thanks in advance.

    just flip the carb over and use a hammer and sharp chisle and carefully tap them out. The base gasget dosent actually touch that exact area. I have used a dye grinder or hacksaw and made 2, 5/16 or so slots in line on both sides of the plug and then use the hammer and chisel.

    Maybe some heat from a soldering iron to soften where they attach also.

    Aren’t they just plastic? Been so long I forget? Crack them with side cutters.

    When I've seen them, you could just carefully pry them off. You could put them back on, too. Like the volume knob on an old stove or TV. Starting around 1973 or so most GM stuff had covers like that so people wouldn't tamper with the emission settings.

    I remember those.. Just grab a pair of pliers and pull they are just ball&socket type caps

    They gone. I used a mini soldering iron and split them, then pulled them off with some needle nose pliers.

    I just wanted to be sure I didn't mess up the threads. Thanks for all the replies.

    Now you have more adjustability emissions be damned.

    I think now you can be arrested for tampering with an emissions device!

    I never understood that. Why put plugs on something that's adjustable? The later 70's cars had pressed in aluminum plus. You needed a miniature hole saw. I think its all a big scam to make mechanics buy new tools every year

    I have been saying that for YEARS. every time you think you have all the tools you need some New"improved" bolt head comes out and you buy another set of sockets. I think the nut & bolt people are in on it too.
