Hey Guys looking for opinions on what size carb to put my 1963 Buick lesabre 401. It has a 2 bbl in it currently. I have found a 4bbl manifold and have ordered gaskets for the manifold and the carburetor including the heat shield. I also got the adapter for the tranny kickdown. I am looking for options on what size of carb to put safely on the all stock motor. Right now I'm looking between the Edelbrock AVS 2 650cfm and the next size up the AVS 2 800cfm.

Any help would be much appreciated.

you could get away with the 650, but the 800 wouldnt drown it and Nailheads like big carbs. The trick on either carb will be proper idle and part throttle calibration, and there's a lot writtten about how to achieve that. I run a 800 CFM Q-Jet and the car loves it.

The 650 is the way to go as it will make better average power for you then the 800 across a stock motors rpm range and get you good milage also.

The added 3 to 4 hp gain that the Q-jet will make above 5200 rpmis not worth talking about in your case!

I have a 750 Edelbrock on my 64 401. It works great and runs well. Check out my posts for jetting and kick down info.
