I am in need of new rings in my turbo project. I was thinking to use total seal rings. Any thoughts on what i should do. I have heard that the total seal rings are the way to go with boost. Any one with experience with boost would be nice.

I ran moly-faced Total Seals with my N2O injected 436 in the late '80's. Excellent compression pressure and leakdown. Unfortunately I have no back-to-back data to show how standard gapped rings would've compared.

I would not go the total seal route. You will want to go with a file fit leaving a few .000's gap for heat expansion that the turbo will create. Hop over on the TurboMustangs.com forum and mirror what the those guys are doing for gap and rings.....

Rich, did you have a bad Total Seal experience? The ones I used were the original design that featured a standard gap with a secondary interlocking ring over top. Never had any scuffing or anything...in fact I gapped them wider that I normally would have a standard ring.

I have not personally had a bad experience with them but two of my close friends have the newer design. Seeing two sets come out, with other rings going back in and problem solved is enough for me.....
