Welcome from Ohio. My second car as a kid was a 53 Super HT.
First Buick V8, does yours still have it? Got mine cheap cuz it
had notorious wrist pin rattle at idle, still ran good though.
Was that the first year without the either side hood open?

No It’s got a Generic Motors 350/th350 by previous owner. I’m trying to make a deal with a guy for a 401/Sp 400 to put in instead. See how it works out.

Hood opens alligator style but my 51 opens from either side.

Never heard the alligator term before, good description. My first car was a 50 four door similar to yours.
Three speed, my Dad (dynaflo joe) was a mechanic at local Buick dealer. Talked the body shop guy into painting it
with left over paint for a six pack and a bottle of bourbon after I sanded it. He taped and shot it Friday night
after work. Let it dry over the weekend, picked it up Monday morning, went to work and on the way home
some guy backed out of his drive way and I tee boned him. It was such a pretty shade blue. Had a green
fender the rest of it's life!:(
