In some ways, these are the Good Old Days.

To my knowledge they have not delivered a Demon yet. Supposedly they are doing these by colors. Black is not yet in progress.

image.jpg I think it's ironic they used the "Hellcat" name. The real Original "Hellcat"was a Buick built WW2 tank destroyer .

Yes, but the engine is a Wright aircraft radial design.

Are you referring to the B-24 Liberator engine?

B 24s uses a 14-cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-1830 turbo-supercharged TWIN Wasp radial engine. Hellcat tanks used a 9- cylinder Curtis-Wright (Wright R-975 Whirlwind) radial generally manufactured under license by Continental Motors. 1830 and 975 stand for the number of cubic inches. The Wright would make around 3oo-40o hp depending on the variant while the Pratt is 1200 hp. Check out the size of the Pratt. " We are going to need a bigger tank."

Check out how the 9 Cylinder Wright radial R975 was stuffed into the Hellcat mounted on rails.

Notice how relative thin the R 975 is relative to the Pratt. The R975 in one row of 9 cylinders in the same plane. The Pratt supra consists of 2 staggered rows of cylinders in two planes.

Remember this is an air-cooled engine so added to this bare engine are the accessories and the cooling fan and shroud. Aircraft use the airspeed and the propeller wash to cool a radial. A tank has a different cooling set up which adds to the space required in a tank' engine compartment.

Thanks for the education Jim, I never imagined they used that engine in the Hellcat......

You can still build a lot of car for $20K that will run with about anything on the street. Won't be unique like our Buicks but it will surprise a lot of people. I have $20K in my supercharged 02 Mustang. Fully forged 4.6, Kenne Bell intercooled blower at 15#, built 5 speed, Macleod clutch, aluminum driveshaft, adjustable four link, built 8.8 rear etc, etc... Destroyed a Lambo Gallardo, newer M3 and an 03 Terminator. Ran door to door with a Lambo Aventador and new GT350, they could not pull me. Can't wait to find a Hellcat. I have AC, power leather seats and windows and cruise. Even with the 60# injectors and monster fuel pumps I get 17-18 city, 22 hwy because of a great tuner. Don't have true dyno numbers as they could not get it tied down tight enough so it kept spinning the tires at 480 hp. I did not intend to go this far with the car as it was a project when I bought it from a kid who could not finish it. It is a blast to drive but I would not want it to be my DD. So spend$40K more for a car to be a DD? Naw I will build another BBB. If I had to do it over I would have put the money in a 69 Skylark.
