I went with DUI on the coil and module so it's a match set. Wires and pick up are GM:

Being a hoarder I had a bad B-1 Canister laying nearby and I noticed the slot is much smaller. I simply cut off the end and am using it as the advance limiter:

The coil wires are a little long so they had to be folded back. The fit was tight in the cap as well.

Good news - it now runs. Yea! Vacuum advance looks to be between 8 and 10 degrees. Haven't had a chance to put the dial back on it to check full advance. Now I can move it around to do the brakes, which was the original plan!

Too bad you bought the wrong ignition coil. I bet that vehicle should have an ignition coil having a red and WHITE wire, instead of red and yellow. The Red/White coil matches the blue/black pickup coil that Buicks use. Your pickup coil has a blue tyrap on the wires. Similar pickup coils use a black connector body.

Your ignition coil should be matched with a pickup coil having a yellow tyrap or yellow connector body. Your ignition coil would usually be used in a Chevy or Cadillac, or Olds Toronado.

The clear/no tyrap, or blue/black pickup coil, and the red/white ignition coil is used on the other engine families--Clear for Pontiac, blue/black for Olds (except Toronado) and Buick.

I figured since I changed the module and coil to after market the pick up did not matter. What is the difference between them besides the wire color?
I called DUI and they said their module will work with any pickup as long as the number of cylinders matches the pickup.

The pickup coils come in three wire lengths to fit various distributor housings. The more-important difference, and the difference between the red/white and red/yellow ignition coils is the MAGNETIC polarity. The electrical polarity is the same, but the magnetic field generated in operation is backwards.

Operationally, they all work exactly the same within normal manufacturing variations. None of them is a high-performance version of the others. However, the magnetic polarity is (apparently) chosen to prevent electrical interference from being picked-up by the pickup coil (another name for pickup coil: Antenna) and delivered to the module causing "false" sparks.

Pickup coils and ignition coils are a matched set. The yellow pickup coil goes with the yellow ignition coil. The remaining pickup coils--clear or blue/black--go with the white ignition coil. Only GM knows the full details of "why".

The modules are not different no matter what the color-codes on the pickup coil or ignition coil are.

Interesting. How would I know if there is a problem with my set up?

Backfire when cranking is probably the biggest sign, and so far as I can tell more related to the pickup coil than the ignition coil.

Thanks - I will watch for that! I should have read the article in the link more carefully. Going back and having gone through the rebuild I now understand what you are saying. Thanks!
