Do the sealing gaskets (one for the heater core, four/five on the attachment bolts) go on the inside/passenger compartment side of the cowl or the exterior/engine side of the cowl? I'm assuming that they are installed on the heater/defroster prior to its installation, which would mean that they're on the inside, but the service manual picture makes it look like they're installed after.
Reading the factory Assembly manual, there is a footnote that states that these gaskets should be installed on the heater box prior to installing the box. So, yes, they are installed on the heater/defroster prior to its installation. BTW, the service manual has this footnote, but neglected to correlate it with the gaskets to which it refers.
