It feels like forever since I've logged on, but I'm back! It's been a crazy year. My wife and I had a baby, bought a house, and I'm now a Mechanical Engineer at a company some folks might be familiar with, Viking Performance (coil over shocks, shocks, coil springs, spherical bearings, etc). Last fall I installed a nitrous setup, with NOS components and an Edelbrock plate. Prior to the nitrous setup I ran 14.9's, weighing in at over 4300lbs. The goal for this year is high 13's. Aside from installing a Viking Performance front double adjustable coil over kit, and Viking Performance rear double adjustable shocks, everything is the same as my last trip to the strip. Who wants to wager on what she runs? I'm starting with Edelbrock's "75" shot (probably closer to 90hp at the crank) and going from there (their "100" shot if need be). I'll be running at the strip the weekend of the 28th, all weekend long. Unfortunately no slicks, just BFG Radial T/A's and spraying 60ft on out. Start the guessing game! :beer
Welcome back Andy! Looking forward to seeing how the car runs with the juice... Congrats on the new career at Viking. I put a set of the double adjustable coilovers on the front of my 67 and absolutely love them.
Big year for you! Congrats on all, but especially the kid. I'll put my nickel down on 14.2 @ 97 mph - What were your 60 fts last year?
Thanks guys! Great to hear Peter! I'd have to dig out the time slips, but I believe my best 60ft was a 1.9 and change.
What Drag Strip do you Twin City people usually go to / use? Just curious if its Rock Falls or Brainerd...
Hey - a 1.9X 60ft is good by anyone's yardstick. The best pure stock cars, the ones that run into the 11's on stock tires, still 60ft in the 1.9X range. Best I ever managed on the 65 was a 2.10 flat.....with 3.23 gears
I think Rock Falls tends to be more popular, but I'll be running at BIR. It definitely hooked better than I thought it would. The Viking DA shocks will definitely help too.
Hi Andy, i have been away for awhile also, Checked in and seen your thread. Looks like fun. I think you will see a high 13s. Good luck...:TU:
Well, got 7 runs in, and ran a best of 13.649 @ just over 100mph. There might be a 13.50 in it by increasing the rebound on the rear shocks, but all in all I'm very pleased with my "75" shot!
I need to weigh the bottle, but I had to put a second bottle in after 3 additional runs on Sunday. First run was good, then the next two it fell off pretty dramatically. We were running a Brainerd. No runs off the bottle. I should have, but I just focused on getting faster. Best 60ft was a 2.03 or 2.04 I believe. And my best from last year was actually a 2.09, so it improved some.
Congrats on the newborn and the engineer position, Andy are you using stock pistons with that 75 shot, I was curious since that may be an option for me. Tell all the pros and cons when you get a chance.
The engine was rebuilt circa 1997 or 1998. I was just a kid then, and have no idea what the replacement pistons were, and any paperwork has since been lost by my Mom. No doubt whatever cast replacements what have been available at the time. I've put 2 bottles through it so far and it shows no signs that it's unhappy. I'll probably step up next year with slicks and the 100hp jets. Based on the math, it should be able to just eek out a 12sec pass if the air is decent.
