I have an 83 regal with a buick 350. I want to put some headers on. Do full length headers fit or will i need shorty headers. If so where can i find shorty headers. Is there any clearance problems. Will I have to make any cuts.Ill take all the help I can thanks.
You'll be looking for a new crossmember with full length duals. there are also a number of places that need to be trimmed for headers to fit properly. Shorties will allow you to avoid most of these problems for a minimal trade in HP.
Yup, Hooker super comps with one modification per side. Easiest headers I every put on a car. Slid em up through the bottom with the mounts and starter on! On another note, Sharkmonkey had a set of Hooker super combs that fit with no mods. We figured the difference was his had 1 7/8 primaries, and mine has 2". Anyway, mine needed a chunk taken out and rewelded. The best way for me to do this woulda been to replace a small portion of the tube with a piece of tube that bent inward. But, since its a mild 350 and not some 700HP monster, I just removed some tube and welded in a flat section. Look at the pink outline on this photo.
Here is a pic of my crossmember I modified for true Duals. Its best to have the header on first so you know were to cut. Of course you can cut out way more to be sure, but I like to take advantage of the arch technique for strengh since the stock crossmember gets pretty flimsy when you remove so much of it.
