I have had some problems with my head lights ,mostly on high beam flashing on and off.I have put A new light switch in it and new dimer switch.I would appreciate if some one could help me figure it out.

Open the hood and start er up in a dark location. Look for arcing (light sparks). Had the same symptoms and a bad ground was the cause, might be worth a shot.

OK thanks I will try that
I was wondering if it could be A ground problem, where was your bad ground located at.

It was the motor to body ground on the rear passenger side of the engine. Side note my dash lights were flashing in sequence with the headlights.

I'm using for my high beam, Wagner halogen H5001.The low beams are stock that was in the car when I bought it.

Sounds like relay time. If a grounding issue doesn't solve the problem install the relays. You'll be surprised at how much BRIGHTER the lights become.

Had a similar issue in my 63 Wildcat when I fitted new headlights. The newer standard lights had a higher amperage draw than the original units, causing the circuit breaker in the light switch (new) to trip every few seconds after an initial 15-20 seconds. As Tom stated, relays fixed the problem.

I started my car in my garage in the dark, looked for A arcing ground,I figured it was worth A shot ,no luck.I'm thinking about replacing the head light wiring ,with A relay kit I seen ,some one posted A link on EBay .

My Riv will do this after about 10 mins on high beams. I was thinking dimmer switch but now maybe not. I know all my grounds are good.

How prophetic, I'm chasing this now myself and I've gone medieval on it.

First, I have this same problem after I replaced my headlight switch. I should have kept the old switch but tossed it. My old switch borked the dash dimmer and I could not see the dash at all. When I replaced it, my high beams would cause this same issue. It is not the floor dimmer as I've replaced that as well. Not breaker in it, simple mechanical two I've been told the new switches are built for dual headlight cars, like Camaros and 71 up Chevelles. I have an old switch I'm going to swap in to see if it fixes the issue if item 4 below doesn't fix it.

Second, my headlights will not trip the breaker if the car isn't running or is only at idle and they are not their brightest. I have to be revving to at least 1200 RPM (higher charge rate) to make the breaker trip. It is very unnerving when you are flying down a curvy back road at a spirited pace and they go out. Kicking it back low beam will return the lights to working without further blinking.

Third, the draw listed for headlights I can find is 50W per low beam (hi or lo setting) and 35W per high beam. So, that is 100W for low and 170W for high.

Fourth, I was looking at the relay situation and it appears to be a whole lot of extra wiring that I'd rather not do if I can avoid it. Instead, I'm going to go a different route. I've purchased H4 headlights conversions and use LED H4 and H7 elements. I calculate the LEDs will draw 25W per element so a total of 100W on high beam, same as the old halogens at low beam.

I'll update once they arrive on Monday and I swap. Probably start a separate thread when I get it all together or maybe start one now to document the progress and/or setbacks to guide others.

I would like to here if they help, that would be good.I have been thinking about A relay system, but may wait and see if the LED's fix you problem .

I decided to start another thread to document my success or failure in my endeavor. If I'm not successfully I can at least be used as a cautionary tail for those that follow.

I didnt think about it until now but I did replace my switch with a new one designed for a corvette due to the vac function of the hideaway headlights

When I got my car head lights wouldn't work. I put A new light switch ,dimer still nothing. I look in A shop manual and it showed head lights got power at A fusible link at the starter. I looked at the power wire at the starter and it was cut,so I splice it back together. The head lights would come on now but high beam would flash.I put A new fusible link in it last Saturday ,thinking that may have been the problem, but didn't help.
I think I keep my old GM switch ,maybe I should try it and see.

I would certainly try that. Easy and might be all you need. New switches certainly seem to be too weak in the circuit breaker section.

I think I will try the original switch, I looked this evening and found the original swich,I never throw nothing away.It would be worth A try.

Did you have any luck with swapping in your old switch?
