He asked for it...70GS455 vs. Neon SRT-4 w/Nitrous

I just got some gas and had pulled out onto the highway. While setting at the light waiting for it to change I notice a blonde in the car behind me...then I noticed the guy driving is acting kinda animated and carrying on about something and making monkey motions with his meat beaters...and his head is shaved. The light changes and as I pull off I get far enough away that I see its a black Neon with a hood scoop. He was so close at the light I had no idea what kind of car it was. So as soon as the traffic allows he comes flying up beside me rev's the engine and squirts his Nitrous at me, and he has the big wing on the back too. Makes a loud hissing noise and then goes flying off. This is a four lane road with a turning lane and there are red lights every block or so. He gets stacked up behind some cars so I come back by him and sure enough he gives me the hiss again and gears his car down and jumps on the gas. I just grinned at him. This goes on for several blocks and he does the revving and hissing each time we pass each other because of the traffic flow. I guess altogether it was four times. Then he has moved out quite some distance from me and there is a stretch down along the river with no lights for a good ways....

He slowed down to about 40mph and waited on me to catch up. I had to reach down and turn the Bee Gees down and then dropped it down in second gear right before I got up beside him...He was already in whatever gear he was going from and I could hear his little motor winding. He punched it and I floored it an instant later. He never had a chance. It was the perfect speed to go from a roll-off for the GS. If my car had downshifted into first gear he might have had a chance, but it did not. That Quadrajet was moaning something fierce all the way through second gear. I pulled him bad, he probably could not believe what had just happened. I shifted into third gear and let her moan a couple of three seconds before I let off and got on the brakes real hard. I was catching the traffic again so I slowed down to a normal speed. At the next light he came up in the other lane and was revving his motor...I held the brake and lit em up till the back end shifted over close to the center line and then eased off.
As I moved into the turning lane he revved his motor and hissed and then tooted his little horn at me. He was a good sport about it anyhow...

That was almost a perfect story, but the BEE GEE's couldn't you say Iron Maiden or Van Halen or even Led Zeppelin.

Man do I remember those 8 tracks when they would start to run slow and eat the tape, you would pull it out and have this mouse nest of tape to deal with. One of my friends was driving down a local state route when his 8 track was munching down on one of his favorites tapes. He looked down to fix the problem, well, the road zigged and he didn't. He hit a bridge abutment with a 77 Ford F 150 and the 6' solid steel bar stock he was carrying went through the bed, cab, and finished off the 8 track missing him by inches. If it's eating your tape.......let it.: TU:

    Good Kill!

But be careful as the law is really going ape over racing now.

I am amazed at how many of our "youth" do not know what a quick car really is. Ever since Volkswagen came out with that commercial about their Sirrocco that "Runs Like The Wind" back in the 80's people believe that stuff.
I know there are some really quick little 4 cylinder cars out there but for the most part "the kids today" have been believing too much advertising.

Stock an SRT4 runs what most of the "muscle cars" (STOCK 327/350/396 Chevelles, 350-400 Oldsmobiles, Pontiacs and Buicks, 302-351 Fords) run but once you start making an SRT4 quicker than stock you start breaking things. A 12-13 second muscle car will run for years and it doesn't cost a small fortune! There are a couple SRT4's here at G'ville raceway that run mid-high 12's and they are always breaking something. The cost of making them run 12's and not break is crazy.

I was really mean one night and suckered an SRT4 into trying to beat the Turbo car one night at the track. He watched my shakedown pass at 13.2 and kept lining up against me and turning up his boost and disconnected his knock sensor but always lost by a tenth or two as I would let him stay even with my back bumper. I did that until he blew a head gasket.
I really felt bad later though.

I ran into a PT Cruiser that ran 11.90's at over 118 MPH! He drove it to the track and it looked stock. Got my :moonu: handed to me. Going to go looking for him when the Procharger is installed!

Tell me about it. As soon as I let off the gas I was thinking how big of an idiot I was. My "stupid" reflexes dwarfed my "older guy who should know better becuase the consequences could be disastrous" instincts.

Hopefully, next time I will have enough sense to try and find a deserted country road...
