There seems to be what appears to be rust in some of the bolt holes. Be sure to clean & bottom tap EVERY bolt hole. Only 3 head bolts go into water, use sealer on those ONLY. All the rest are blind bolt holes. Make sure head bolts are installed in proper locations. If longer bolts are installed in wrong locations the block can crack/split. Look VERY closely at the con rod bolts passing by the oil pump. With some rod bolts they will hit the pump. Minimum clearance I like to use is .050". J&E makes some nice pistons, but be sure to check the thickness of the piston in the valve reliefs on the sides & bottom. I know it's in a difficult spot but we needed about an additional .020" & was told there SHOULD be plenty of "Meat". Well after going .022" we went through the piston to the other side. Even if we didn't need additional clearance a hole would have "Blown" through after starting with 14 1/2-1 compression. Not even enough for 10-1. They provided us with another set at about $150.00 of the original price of over 1K!!!! .

thanks Tom. i will look for the 3 head bolts.we did have to go deeper on the valve reliefs to lower the compression a little.Doug did check the thickness it was alright but on the top of the dome itself was thin, thats why he took it off the reliefs. he did ask j&e for deeper reliefs to start with maybe they had more meat there and learned from your pistons they did for you. thanks again i will check the rod bolt clearance on the oil pump.

going one size bigger on the comp cam 228-231 duration, 520-515 lift.i have the job number for the pistons. lets wait till we get the engine going see how it runs and if it will hold up.

I ask because my in-laws live in Potsdam and Rochester. We drive up 81 to visit them every Thanksgiving.

Sorry to the OP but I don't think you will mind.

Well...that picture is really poor quality, but this one isn't!

Funny story about that. A buddy of mine, that loves my car, spots this car in a music video. He knows I had it parked at my brother's house in his garage for a while. He calls me and says I need to check out this music video and ask my brother how much money he got.

Truth is it's not my car but its appears to be exactly same except for the wheels and the exhaust comes out in front of the rear tires.

The video is "Scream" by Timbaland. You can look it up on YouTube.

had the car out, very happy with the engine. at the very least 35 hp more. no 1/4 mile time yet, the last engine ran 12.8 et. have to go down and thank Doug at finger lakes machine shop for the great job he did. one side note the after market flex plate must be thicker, it chewed the end of the mini starter teeth. shimed the starter back it still works good.

    Awesome!
Where do you feel the power increase the most? And what carb are you using?
Weather is finally getting decent here. Time to work my cars again.

Good news Joe, cant wait to hear how the eelco set up runs on it. When do you think you can get to the track?:TU:

Hi Bob,the track maybe june. i sent the 2x4 eelco out to greg gessler to run flow numbers stock and then see what he can do. Walt am running a 800 cfm eldebrock with docs mod right now till the 2x4 comes back then i can see if theres a difference. i had more head work done and the next bigger cam with stronger yet lighter beehive springs and 11/32 valves, lt seems like now its making power to 5500 rpm.the last engine the best shift point was 5250 and peak hp on the dyno was 4700 rpm. i might have lost a hair right off the line i mean right off , but after that it just pulls strong, goes from first gear to high gear[2-speed] with out slowing down at all. very smooth power like its not working hard at all. so 16 more cubes longer rods and real light pistons all working together oh yea and the block filler. real happy so far.

Hey Joe, Whats new with the stroker? How does the 1x4 feel on it compared to the 2x4?

1x4 picked up almost 2 mph with the g tech over the eelco 2x4 and ported intake from gessler and 2 600 cfm carbs. going to track on the 25th to get some real times.would you like to buy the 2x4 there for sale. lol.

My blue car picked up 2 tenths with the 750 Q-jet over a pair of AFB 500's on the Buick 2x4.
Joe, maybe we should try a pair of 750's.:beers2:

I dont know what I would do with 2. Doc and Tom have been saying ''go 1x4 young man'' for a while now. good luck at the track. I hope you can get some traction .When I took my last engine to the dyno my 1x4 with just a doc mod and 950 holley way out torqed the eelco with a 600 and 750 in the rear.
