The VIN of the car identified in Steven Dove's book 'Guide to GS Buick', on Page 184 under heading 'Production Sheet Found Behind Rear Seat'

My book's copyright 1992, and the VIN identified on the sheet is 136370K153010. It's a Chevy build sheet (in a 'Guide to GS Buick' book :Do No: )

Man, the things you find out in the library :Brow:

    BUQUICK I'm your huckleberry.

It's funny you mention this... We had a 70 skylark that was a parts car for a '70 Stage 1 and under the back seat were 2 build sheets one for the Skylark and one for the car in front of it in line, which was a '70 malibu w/ a 307.

I've got a first edition of that book, copyright 1988. Same error on same page....:Dou:

I have 2 cars that had multiple build sheets under the back seat. Interestingly they were Kansas build cars. My 70 skylark convertible was followed down the line by a 4 speed El Camino, then a 2 door malibu. The second time was a 70 GS 455 4 speed car followed by another 2 door malibu. I wonder if anyone knows of or owns any sequentially built GS buicks. That would be really cool!

    WIERD STUFF TOO

    MARCO,
I COMPLETELE RIPPED MY 71 GS APART TO PAINT THE FLOORS AND DO SOME REPAIR WORK. I NEVER FOUND THE BUILD SHEET. LOOKED IN ALL THE USUAL PLACES BUT, NO SHEET:Do No: .SINCE THE INTERIOR WAS DESTROYED BY MICE I THREW OUT THE SEATS. I CAME DOWN TO WHERE I DISPOSED OF THE SEATS TO LOOK IF I MISSED THE SHEET . I CUT THE SEATS WITH A UTILITY KNIFE TO SEE IF IT WAS UNDER THE CUSHIONS BUT, AGAIN NO SHEET. I DID FIND AN INTERESTING THING THOUGH. THE BACK SIDE OF THE MATERIAL THAT COVERED THE SEAT HAD A BIG GS WITH A DATE CODE OF 6-71 ON IT . IT CORRESPONDS WITH THE BUILD TIME OF THIS CAR. WAS WONDERING IF YOU EVER CAME ACROSS THIS BEFORE? IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DOCUMENT THIS ,I HAVE LOTS OF IT .

    Hi Pat -

My GS was completely disassembled and NO build sheets were found anywhere (door panels, under carper, under cowl, on top of gas tank).

There was an interior sheet found under the bench seat by Duane H. It contained, in handwriting, 44667 (GS convertible), A01 (tinted glass), D33 (remote mirror), and M20 (4-speed manual). There were a couple more interior UPC codes, but I cannot remember them off the top of my head. I think it was for the Fisher people who were assembling the car.

    Hey Chris -

How about registering your other cars :Brow:

I was so excited to find the buildsheet for my 72 GS convertible above the gas tank and then crushed to find out it was for a two door post ahead of it....major bummer.

The convertible boot for my '68 GS is original and on the underside of the vinyl it is stamped with a "GS" inside of a 2 inch diameter circle. I would think that a convertible boot for a GS would be the same as a convertible boot for a Skylark, so why the GS stamp?:Do No:

I have Stephen Dove's 1st edition (400th book printed and signed by Mr. Dove.... I know, big deal!!!), it shows the chevy build sheet....

    Hey Marco,

When disassembling my 71 Stage 1 I found the same handwritten computer type cards under all three seats. Looks like some kind of grease pencil or marking crayon. Mine listed 43467, M40(thm 400), SCO 625 168 (black buckets)
D55 (console) D35 (sport mirrors) A01 (tinted glass) and U80(rear seat speaker). I have the window sticker but could find no build sheet anywhere.

PS--as soon as I get my info and $$ to Wayne for some microfiche info I will get my other two basketcases registered!

    Guys,
I started reading this thread and you had me rolling on the floor laughing. The GS that is stamped on the inside of the vinyl doesn't have anything to do with Gran Sports. It is the Logo for the company that produced the vinyl. I forget the company name but they were a division of General Tire and Rubber, hence the GS logo.
Pat, you are correct, the 6-71 is the date the vinyl was produced namely, June of 1971.

What had me laughing so hard was the thought of all those Chevelle guys thinking they had GS interiors.

    "GS" Stamp

Duane, Thanks for clearing that up with the "GS" stamp. I thought it was strange to have a "GS" only convertible boot....

I will still tell every chevy guy that I can that they built his car with "GS" interior parts to give it some class.... See it says right there on the vinyl..."GS"...:Brow:

    Pat,
Allen Wance better talk highly about me or I will kick his butt. He worked for me for years. Before I started by business Allen and I were working together at another upholstery company. When I started my business up Allen began working for me and the business grew. He is a true craftsman and made all the really intricate interiors we produced, including most of the GSX Prototype interior. I am sure he could tell you some stories, especially about the Beerhaus.
Whenever we reproduced a new interior design we would hang it up on the wall. We were so proud of our new interiors we had to look at them for a while before we shipped them. I remember one guy that needed his seats for a show. We kept his interior on the wall until the day before he needed them. I paid to ship them Next-day-air to California so we could look at them for a few more days.
By the time I sold the interior business we made 6500 different varieties of interiors and had over 900 exclusive items. THOSE were the good old days!
