Well here's a muscle car owner after my own heart, you got to love it. This morning in a busy Stop & Shop supermarket parking lot he parks his 65 and goes shopping. I just finished serving the store on my route in Northport, and spotted the GTO. He got to his car as I took the picture, I said you got guts. He laughed and said I love to drive it and take everywhere.
Mine all get driven as regular cars when the weather permits, too.....Why have it if you're not going to use it?
Before I restored my red 65 GS four speed, my regular car was down for whatever reason? and I used the 65 for a couple weeks as my family car.
My first project car, drove it home 389 4 speed tri-power midnight blue. 20 years old lost garage and parted the whole thing out down to gas tank. Only paid $1500 for it. Did make a ton of cash though as the Musclecar boom had just started. Still take a peek at ones for sale, loved that car.
Yeah, before I sold my gold car I took it everywhere, but I did try and park it away from other vehicles.
I drive my GS and ‘85 El Camino a lot; neither are so nice I’m afraid to. That said, I went to Wally World this afternoon and witnessed a sloppily clothed teen and his buddy shove a shopping cart as hard as he could down the hill toward the store (and rows of cars!). It stopped without damaging anything, but they looked a little sheepish when an older guy shaped like a fridge walked up and asked them what the hell they were thinking. Patrick
I do the same thing, If I drive my GS to work and have to stop somewhere on the way home, I do. Giant Eagle, Sav a Lot, Wal Mart, Home Depot, Pet store. I wont own any vehicle unless I can use it when need be. My GS and GN have to be able to go ANYWHERE at a moments notice if need be
In my adventures I've found no matter how far out in the lot I park the Riv there will always be at least 1 person that has to park right next to it and close enough to hit her with his door. Never fails!
Whole reason I went with the '66 in the picture is to DRIVE IT EVERY DAY if I can. People need to see the wonderful designs of the past and appreciate what went into the work. Jellybean-shaped cars are fine for getting to work and back, I guess, but anything else deserves exposing people to rolling art. (Pool chems will not fit, so I can't drive it to pick them up, but everything else is pretty much OK.) Cheers!
I don't temp fate by parking in close quarters. Too many aholes who could care less about others property. I park far away even with my daily drivers. But I'm not one of 'those people' who take up two, or more, parking spots.
Hi all, I drove my 65 Special everywhere working in NC and most of the year in MI, granted its a 4 door so far from priceless. Only issue I did have was a couple door dings going to a amusement park while on vacation. My current 65 Skylark gets driven regularly but 13mpg limits it to a bit, either way something enjoyable about driving older cars. Regards,
I drive my cars most anywhere I want to. The green cars body/paint isnt so straight that I'm overly worried about it and the car isn't really all that valuable. Sure, dents/dings/scratches suck, but damnit, I'm driving it because that's what it's supposed to do. It actually has a few door dings, one of which is know is from a car show of all places. Is what it is. As I heard said once, not driving your car to preserve it is like not having sex with your wife to save her for the next guy.
So true. It's like the same in an empty restaurant or movie theater someone has to come in and sit down right next to you.
While my first 68 GS was being restored (black primer quarters, one blue door, one brown, two darker blue fenders, red hood and trunk) I got more interest from people than I currently do with my GS convertible. Seems like people can relate to project cars better than finished cars sometimes. I have to start driving my current GS more, it mostly sits in the garage now.
