Good day everyone. While the engine is out being rebuilt, I am looking to upgrade the radiator. It is a 67 GS400 and engine will be a 455. Another member of the forum recommended one from US Radiator, http://www.usradiator.com/buick-gs-1967-v8-340-400-radiator.html, but he has yet to install it in his 67. Looking for some recommendations on what others have used in their 67 GS400. I do have dual fans so unsure if I should also be upgrading the fans. Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you are upping the power, you may want to upgrade to a higher capacity aluminum radiator. Others can weigh in on what's appropriate because I am still running stock radiator in my car.

However if you end up considering the US Radiator part, be aware that the top outlet isn't correct. It's aligned with the centerline of the car. your original radiator had the top outlet pointing 90 regress to that orientation, towards the passenger side of the car. This in and of itself isn't a problem but it means you will have to improvise a top radiator hose which can be a pain in the neck.

I know this because I bought a replacement US Radiator before eventually having my original radiator recored. If you are interested in buying a used US Radiator, PM me. I have one.

Good point on the hose Stacey. I am assuming others have found a solution (stock 430/455 hose???) as no one I can find makes the 90* outlet type radiator. I should ask the board!

Thanks Larry. I see you were looking at purchasing one of the Dewitts. Did you finally purchase one? Any feedback on their product? The 455 engine I got came off a 73 Buick. Would the inlet and outlet of the motor be located in same spot as the 67? I would check but motor is not anywhere near me as it is at the shop.

I used a wizzard cooling unit on the 65 olds we finish up, had them do the shroud and all, was a super nice unit and fit perfect. dont know if they have 1 for your application but worth the call. they build to order so not overnight shipping.

we replaced a Chinese 3 core al that wouldnt keep cool, with a 2, 1" row unit and saw a solid 25 degree drop. his 400 which is actually about 441 cubes now never saw over 200 on the test drives

I went with the brass copper US Radiator as many of the alum ones had no specs (see Larry's post above), the seller didn't know, fittings were wrong, or the cost. I am of the school that brass/copper is a good radiator, better than alum unless its a really good alum unit.

No, I still have my 18 year old Griffin Aluminum Radiator, 2 rows of 1 1/4" tubes. Still cools great with my stock shroud and clutch fan.

I bought a cheap champion aluminum 4row (under $300) it fit good, then got a radiator hose with a tight 90 turn and only used the 90, then a radiator hose connector from jegs and was able to use original upper hose, it looked pretty good worked fine

If you want to build a factory stock radiator for your 67 GS 400 I have both correct radiator tanks for sale. I use the factory one and my car runs pretty cool about 185 with out any electric fans.
