I am new to Buicks and would like to tap into the knowledge base here.

Looking to buy a 70 GS, and i have the build sheet.

How specifically do you tell between a GS350 and a GS455?

The build sheet has Model 44637.

    Thanks

44637 is a GS455. A GS350 would be 43437 in 1970. It is also the first 5 digits of the VIN. The sixth is 0 denoting 1970. The K is the Plant, Leeds Mo. Looks like it is not a Stage1 as the transmission is a BA. BB would be the Stage 1 THM 400.

The model number for a 70 GS 455 is in fact 44637.

That's a clean build sheet. Good luck.

Is this a Bamboo Cream car?

Wish I found a build sheet that nice.
The only one I could find in mine was on top of the gas tank,
wasn't even for my car...was for a Canadian sold GS 455.
It was 107 digits earlier than my car.
    Oh well......

Now that you know the numbers,to make sure the motor was never changed, the valve covers for the 455 should have 5 bolts, while the 350 has 6 bolts..Bruno.

Pulled the gas tank yesterday and there was no build sheet what so ever. Also pulled the driver side door panel in hope to find one there, no luck.

Under the front seat, behind the rear seat back, under the driver’s side carpet, and in the driver’s side a-pillar are other places to search.

Have you ever had the dash apart?

Cheat sheets for the line workers, cool. Someone on here can decipher those for you. I’d get those in a plastic sheet protector.

Get on your back with a bright flashlight and look behind the dash vent on the drivers side. Stick your hand up in there and in the windshield pillar. Many were jammed up in there. You may not find one, I haven’t found one on my ‘71 either. But I have found them on others.

Seem to be the norm for these '71. Lol. My deck lid (trunk) has the "GS" emblem and under it "By Buick". Back in the mid '80 any GS owner that had a '70 or '72 would ask me why did have that "By Buick" emblem there. But that how the car came. We have an odd ball for sure.
