gs hood

    i, i'm trying t clone my 72 sylark to a gs. i'm having a problem trying to line the foam to match the grille. I have the right size foam and the right grille but when i close the hood, it doesn't match up. can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong? any info will be apreciate..Mike:Do No:

    You should try posting under "the bench", Mike.

    I'm not really sure if you're talking about the seals for the air cleaner and how they mate to the grilles in the hood or not. Can you provide a picture of the problem, by any chance?

    Hi Mike !

    Hope you have been well. I presume you are talking about the foam unit that sits on top of the air cleaners is not mating to the seal plates under the hood. I expect it has to do with the fact that a 72 has a different intake shape( triangular) on the right snokel relative to the left. The 70-71 models were both square I believe. Did you mix and match parts without taking those differences into account? For example, a 72 requires a specially shaped foam unit to match the trianular snorkel on the right.


    Also if I am not mistaken you can mount the seal plates so they sit in the wrong position relative to the foam units. When correctly mounted the seal plates sides are not parallel to the grilles on the hood. Be careful with the screws through the seal plates to the grilles in that they will strip out the soft material from the grille easily.

    It is cold for NC isn't it?
