Thanks, lets go with mild winter As much as the heat zaps you out in the garage, the winter has its own drawbacks. You have to be at about 65 degrees to work with the resin, some "winter" days are about 60 degrees, which means close up the garage and heat it up a little with a heater. Now your temp is comfortable but you have to wear a half face respirator the whole time because you can't open the doors for ventilation. Temps will start dropping off some here in a few weeks. Now that I have the garage cleaned and I've started back up I can hopefully keep building the things!
My folks just moved to the Chandler area. A ways southeast of you. Was thinking of avoiding shipping costs if they just picked up the hood upon completion. They drive up to the Seattle area here to escape the heat. They could maybe bring it with them. Just an idea.
I'm all for saving someone some money! The shipping cost is normally half of what the hood costs! If someone could pick it up it also saves me having to build the box and pack it too which takes a few hours as well.
Yes they are still available, albeit at a slow rate This is as close I have to black! I forget the members name who has this car, I'm at work and my list of sales is at home. I've been selling the hoods for $550 for a bolt on and $400 for a lift off (hood pins to hold it on front and back)
I haven’t updated the list in a while, but today I went through this thread and wrote down all of the new names and dates. This weekend I’ll go through my PM’s and see if any of those are new and what date I received them and add those as well. Here’s the one I’m finishing up for Krayzie949. I always test fit the hood on my car, it saved me a big hassle once when I made one that was slightly off on the mounting and it couldn’t be aligned side to side with the fenders. Glad I caught it before someone sent me money and then was very pissed off when they bolted it to their car! As I’ve said in the past, I’m always looking at ways to make these hoods quicker without sacrificing quality. I may have come up with something I’ll play around with before the next hood. It may cut several hours out of the ~40 hours duration. I’ll also contact people that are close to the top and see if they’re still interested, if they’re not, it’ll bump it up some. I did realize today that I made a hood for John Biggs “Da Torquester” already. My list at home must have flip flopped him with Krayzie949. If anyone needs to contact me direct, feel free to drop me an e-mail at mltdwn12@q.com
Well I kept looking at that picture posted above and it didn't look right. At first I thought maybe it was the angle I took the picture or the fact that the molding wasn't installed. So yesterday I pulled my hood and molding and put the molding on the new hood. It still looked raised in the center I measured it and then put my hood back on and measured it at the peak too, the new hood is 1/2" higher in the center! I'm not sure why this happened. This hood was originally for a friend but he kept going back and forth on buying it, so it sat out in my shed leaning against another steel hood. I'm not sure if our high heat and the way it was stored caused the issue, but I was about to sell it to someone else, so I did the test fit. With this situation the hood is junk, a waste of 30+ hours of labor and several hundred dollars in material. Oh well, that's why I test fit every hood. Back to the molds.
Well if Krayzie949 wants to wait on another hood, I'll sell this one for half price ($275) plus shipping just to recover some cost. If I am going to sell it, I'll fix the little parts that stick down and line up with the headlight doors. The ones on this hood are a little too small. Easy fix though.
Add me to the list, approximately what is the shipping costs @ 29016 Thanks Jaye This hood will fit my 1969 Skylark right?
