Re: whats in your engine ?

Do you have your engine build posted on the board ? I would like to know what you did on your engine build. Machine work and parts ?

I'm working on getting some pictures together and posting my build in the owners rides section, I called PAE and spoke to Jim when I first started my build and followed his suggestions, my engine kit was ordered through him also.

    I have a 1970 Buick 455 and a 1970 #'s matching 455 GTO.................plus we have built a 455 Pontiac Motor that we placed in a 66 GTO.......both Poncho/Buick engines have a ton of potential.

    Dunno man............510ft/lbs of Buick vs 500 ft/lbs of Pontiac.....in stock form.......it's gonna beeeeeeeee close.:TU:

Update! My friend Jerry has his new 462 Pontiac motor about ready, he had me do the build with him and we built it close to being the same as my Buick. As soon as it is broken in and tuned properly he wants to line them up again. I think I can get a better hole shot with my car, he has a Tremec 5 spd. so he will have to do a good job banging gears to out shift the tubo 400.

I will post the results when it happens, should be fun! :3gears:

I'm looking forward to this too. Always great to have these friendly grudge matches. I had a friend back in the 80's with of all things a GTO w/400 and I had a 396 Chevelle. He ran a 12.98 at Keystone Raceway in Pgh and I ran a 13.20 with a 2.05 60 ft. at Quaker City in Salem OH but on the street I would beat him hands down every time. We must've raced 12 times. Drove him nuts. Haven't had a rivalry like that since.

    Good luck and have fun!

Is the engine youre running now the one posted in your sig?

I was reading up on the TA-cam you have listed in your sig, and was dreaming up a combo. The sig specs are close to that combo, but i was expecting it to be quicker than 12s..... Was that et. on street tires?

Sounds like a mean combo youre running now though. Would be interesting to hear the ET it puts down.

I like the power range of the cam but the power brakes are not very good, and yes my time posted was with just street tires. I think high 11s are very posible with better traction but it was very easy to feather it off the line because of the quality convertor. I have yet to really try and dial this car in because it has already reached the performance level I was looking for. I am not after trying to run real low ETs that much, the car is a great driver except for marginal brakes. Maybe if time allows this month I can get everything finished, I have drag radials but need to mount them.

I think this match race with my friend should be fun, his 462 went together real nice. He will be doing what ever he can to win this time, he spent over $10,000 on this new motor. We have had trouble finding a new set of headers that fit the port design of his new heads and also fit around his Tremec 5 spd.

The build in my sig. is what I currently run in my car, I would use a cam that gives better vacuum if I had to do it over again. I use the car for mostly cruise nights and shows.

I ran a '70 455 HO 4-speed GTO some years ago, with my stock Stage 1. He ran his at the local strip, and won his share of trophies. I really expected to be spanked, but the convertible just squatted hard on the 14" rear Eagle GT's, grunted hard, and beat him up. It wasn't even close. I didn't even have to get into the secondaries. I beat him even worse from a 20 mph roll.

cray1801 Too much is just right.

Steve with my last motor, when I went from TA radials to TA Drag Radials I went from 12.52 to 12.23. My 60' is 1.75. The tire change alone should give you an 11.9x timeslip, and is much safer on the steet (dry).

Our combinations are very similar but I have a slightly smaller cam, little more compression 10.4, home ported iron heads and M/T Scavenger headers. Those shorties provide you with much better ground clearance than me. I've got 11 psi at 900 rpm..... just enough :)

We still do not have the GTO motor put in because of problems with the motor mount location change on the newer block but we have the right adapters now so it shouldn't be too much longer. I haven't driven my Buick for over 8 months so I better get it dusted off and mount the drag radials.

Looking forward to running him again, it should be much closer. :TU:
