I've noticed that the correct color for a '72 grille is supposed to be black. The headlamp bezels came in both black and dark argent. Should the grille and bezels match? I've never seen an argent grille but then again my grille is silver like Skylarks. What is correct? :Do No:

for the gs - bezel face is body colour (although some are black which did not match the body colour) with dark grey on the curved surface around the headlight & the ring on the bezel around/forward of the headlight is chromed ; the skylark bezel is all chromeplated .
the gs grill is abs plastic , black with grey . there are some good pictures of grills on this site if hackers did not destroy them .

What I'm referring to is the headlamp bezel pocket area. I see some are flat black and some are dark argent. From what I gather, the grille is supposed to be black trimmed in lite argent. Does it matter that the bezel pockets don't match the grille?

    Correct Colors

Reynold, the color on the 1972 GS on the grill and the head light doors (a round the head light it self) is a dark argent in the dark areas and a bright siliver in the the light areas. Most of the ones I see are painted incorrectly including mine (I used black instead of dark argent and never painted the head light doors). AL.

Thanks, Al. I kinda figured that they should match, but I've only seen restored grilles painted like yours. I have seen a N.O.S. grille that was dark argent that's why I was confused about the correct color.

    72 GS Grill

Reynold, I bought a set on n.o.s. head light doors and they are dark argent. A buddy of mine bought his 72 GS new and like I posted earlier the dark areas are on the grill are the same shade on the grill as the head light doors. AL.

Good info Al. I have a set of headlamp bezels with the argent color in very good shape. I'll bring it to the paint store to get it matched so I can paint the grille the same color.

OK, look into plasti-kote CC #9091 for the dark areas and FM #8115 for the bright areas AL.

Wow this is getting hard to decipher , I have seen NOS griles with semi flat black and bright silver this is supposed to be GS and dark argent grilles they are suppose to be for skylark . Members here have said their car was original with either grille , maybe it was a parts availability/supplier issue . The NOS headlight doors I have and that is 5 of them are all argent in the headlight area and black primer in the area that is body color . The ones on my Stage 1 car appear to be original and are argent also .

Gerry, the back side I believe was gray with overspray from the painted front of the grill. AL.
