Not the one I been waiting for, telling me to come get the 70 X or the 71 X ,..but from a fella I been hanging onto his 72 Stage 1 car he bought new,..been parked since 76,,antique bronze, auto , base interior all matching except for the rear it was upgraded for a 12bolt 4.11 from a 69 chevelle back around 74 when he blew it apart,..anyways he ready to get it going again looking forward to getting started on this one I'll post some pics when I dig it out of its corner
Nice find. I have never been a fan of the side strips though. I would trash that instantly. They break up the looks of the car. They serve no purpose in this day and age.
You talking about the side moulding Dave? They will more than likely hit the dumpster,..not going to do a full resto just a freshen up I hope,.. NV I read it as "stripes"
My dad and my uncle both drove this car in high school,..my uncle was good friends with the owner and has told me he 'my uncle' drove it to Myrtle Beach from Spartanburg in just over 4hrs going the old way thru Columbia said the car stayed at or over 100mph for most of the way,..with 4 drunk guys in it
The car was pretty well known in street race scene around Spartanburg often beating built big block chevelles, vettes, etc my dad raced his friend in a hopped up 69 427 vette and put 3 cars on him with the AC running. Granted most the hopped up cars were slower than they were new but,..
The engine spun a bearing very early under warranty and the local dealer, Wakefield Buick had a tech there that raced the GS's competitively he blueprinted it and slid a mild cam if some sort in it so it ran better than your average 72 stage 1. The car was almost not born as they were starting to retool for the 73 models when this one was ordered he had to raise hell and get stripped gs pulled to get it built so I've been told Useless fact,..but Richard Lassiter's GNX he bought new came from Wakefield Buick,..my pop said they sold a crap ton of GS's
Useless fact,..but Richard Lassiter's GNX he bought new came from Wakefield Buick,..my pop said they sold a crap ton of GS's Not neccessarily a USELESS fact...Wakefield Buick is probably the only dealer that sold TWO Buick GNX's; before the 'Super 60' dealers (which ended up being only 47) got their 2nd GNX. Both Richard Chamberlain and Richard Lassiter got their GNX delivered at Wakefield. I don't know how many people were asked by Buick where they wanted to receive their GNX, but Richard is definitely one. Richard's is #489, before the final set of cars.
yeah, generally when a car is full of leafs its a rust bucket. Sounds like the kinda work you'll enjoy. Cool!
Ha ha....i do believe that McGonigal Buick here in Kokomo got the most GNX'S to sell......allotment was based on how many turbo cars sold.....a lot of people that worked here at Delco Electronics bought turbo T's and GN'S...especially the Engineers on the development team for the fuel management system..... Peace WildBill p.s...they got three
Same thing happened to my brother's '72 Stage 1. Under 2k on the odometer, babied and yet a spun bearing. Engine was sent to the GM tech center in Burbank and the Buick guys were not able to determine why it spun. Brother still has the car although it has NOT run in almost 10 years. He retired recently and putting it back on the road is on his short list of to do items.
