Got myself a little something

After thinking and wondering and hesitating for quite some time I finally ordered a quickjack for my garage.
My ceiling does not allow lifting the car any higher than the quickjack is able to. So the question bang for the buck must not consider the comparison with a regular two- or four-post-hoist.
I am pretty satisfied. That thing is more robust than I thought it would be. I took my wife's car as guinea pig. After some pushing and pulling with almost no movement of the car I felt save and got underneath the vehicle. I think the height is acceptable for most work including a transmission swap. I will check that out once my 200-4R has arrived. Storage is great, just put two hangers at the wall for the frames.

looks good , im assuming you are using jack stands to ? I could use something like this as I have limited garage space . they could even live on the ground under the car when not in use ,

Yes, but I prefer not to, because in Winter my Buick is in an offsite storage and the Garage is used for my daily driver. Accordingly the floor is often wet from water / snow dripping of the car. Mixed with salt makes a good recipe for corrosion.
Well, I paid a total of 1.770€. Included are a set of Pinchweld Rubber Blocks for 85€, S&H for 99€ and Taxes for 290€. The listed price for the Quickjack w/o taxes is 1.295€. That you can compare with the listed price in US, also w/o sales tax of 1.365$. By coincidence I just saw that you can make a steal at Costco, where the the Quickjack is offered for 1.099,99$ including S&H.

Honestly, for that price I would not wait a minute.

So I read one of the 3 out of 5 star reviews:

"The QuickJack does a great job of raising my car quickly and safely, but it needed some help out of the box. Both plastic shipping plugs on the pump assembly were broken and there was hydraulic fluid all over the unit when I opened the box. I assume the plugs were over-tightened at the factory. The valve on one of the air cylinders is leaking and refuses to hold pressure after 24 hours. One of the lock bars was over-tightened and would not follow the guide rail as I raised the jack. The instructions are also poorly written and do not clearly describe how to bleed the cylinders. I was able to figure everything out, but it took time. An improved out-of-box experience would increase my score to 5 stars."

From my perspective, this person is easy to please.

    Here's another:

    "Important information missing in description!
The illustration for this item shows a vehicle that is obviously a unibody. The unit as delivered is not capable of being used on a unibody!!!

A unibody requires lifting on the pinch welds, the rubber lifting blocks provided, do not include there: "Pinch-Weld" blocks that are required to safely lift my vehicle, which is a unibody and same make and model as the vehicle illustrated. There is no disclaimer that indicates this.

There are no assembly or operating instructions included.

This item is unusable as delivered.

I can not review the functionality of this unit until I acquire additional parts and proper instructions."

    And another:

"Extremely useful but quality control lacking...
Bought this from CostCo for use on my race car and have found it to be extraordinarily useful thus far. However, upon unshipping it was obvious that one of the locking arms had a slight manufacturing defect. Nothing that impacts safety - my work-around allows me to use the unit but nonetheless annoying. I've traded numerous messages and emails with the company but have yet to talk to someone directly about getting a replacement. They seem to be overwhelmed or have very poor help desk processes. Before the purchase, I watched nearly all videos on their YouTube channel and wish that their customer support equalled the quality of the sales pitch. It doesn't."

Who needs this BS? LOL Why can't companies deliver a product that works out of the box without all these ridiculous, avoidable issues?

A friend of mine has one and he is happy with it. No complaints that I know of...

I am not affiliated with Quickjack, but I think Ken's perspective is a little onesided. There are way more ratings with 5. I feel sorry for everyone whose product does not work as it is supposed to right away. That must not happen, but reality is, it happens and with almost every company.
I believe it comes down to how a company deals with any kind of complaint. Believe me, a customer who was treated right after a complaint is sometimes even more loyal than a customer whose stuff worked right away.
My stuff worked right out of the box and I even was contacted by the european importer of QuickJack after delivery took place to see if I received everything in good shape and if everything worked.
But, this is my experience and everybody else must make his own decisions.

Admittedly I tend to focus on the negative. They did have legit beefs though, and maybe more than you'd hope. It is worth noting that even though their experiences (in my opinion) really sucked, for an out of box, brand new item, some still gave 3 star ratings, which seems kind. In the old days, more often than not, out of box meant no leaks, no stripped threads, no cracks etc. But we've become so tolerant of this stuff these days that the out of box quality bar has been lowered so far that it sets a whole new standard for what is considered good quality. I would love one of these things, don't get me wrong, but when 20% of the reviews are 3 or lower (10% 2 or lower), you kind of have to raise an eyebrow. That's not great feedback. I realize some people are never happy, but the complaints seemed legit. I totally agree though that a righted wrong by a company builds loyalty like no other action.

A decent mid rise scissor lift will have a lift height of 60" or so. A high end unit will be 2800 or so, a cheapy will be less than 2k. Most will run off a 120v outlet too. It won't hang off your wall but it would be much more useful.

There is obviously no "one size fits all" in this regard. Would I have loved to use a "real" hoist? Absolutely, but with the limitations I have there is no way to use one. The Quickjack compared to a real hoist is not a bargin, but considering the limitation I have, I feel it was the best choice for me. I will let you guys know, how things go with the swap of my transmission and if my back gets broken :)
