It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of a great friend, Tom Shaw. Tom was involved in an auto accident and died Wednesday, November 23rd, 2016.

Tom was extremely passionate about the hobby and provided so much coverage and support for our event. We will miss you Tom.

We will post more as info comes available - Dan, Dennis, Lyndon and Donny.

    EDIT.......
Last night at the time I read about Tom's passing, I was tired and at a loss for words. Still am at a loss really, but after exchanging emails and several texts with Tom since September, the last being a couple days before he was discharged from the hospital, he told me he was feeling better, and was eager to get home to finish some stories he was working on for various magazines. One of those was the story to accompany the photo shoot he did on my Buick. Said he was about done with it and would email me a rough draft to look over to verify facts. I was really looking forward to reading the story to see how Tom's gift of writing would take me on a journey, as all his stories did/do. He had the ability to suck you in, get you interested, and make you enjoy learning about a make and model vehicle, that written by anyone else, I would have been bored and turned the page. He had a love and passion for the cars, and a mission to get the facts straight.

    :(

My book was en route to his home. :ball: His contribution to it was huge.

If there's any guy I could say, "He was a good man," it would be Tom.

 :( Who isn't at a loss for words upon hearing this terrible news? To the person, everyone who had the privilege of personally knowing Tom Shaw knew what a great guy he was; an honest friend to all. Those of you who had not met Tom may rest assured that all the emotions and good wishes you read here are only a portion of those which Tom deserves.

Few hobbies have as great an advocate as did the collector-car hobby in Tom Shaw. To say it was a privilege to know him is an understatement; he was a wonderful friend.

Here are some photos from The 2016 Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race, likely the last time most of us ever saw Tom:

Tom has done so much for our little Studebaker corner of the high-performance world that I try to get a photo of the two of us every year at The Pure Stocks. Here is the 2016 photo from last September:

Tom's desire to "get it right" knew no limits. He worked tirelessly back-and-forth with me and cousin George Krem to make sure that his dissertation on the four Studebaker R-series high-performance engines that appeared in Muscle Car Review a couple years ago was accurate. That he accomplished: No article in the collector-car press has ever covered the topic as thoroughly and accurately as did Tom Shaw in the final product.

Tom and I shared an interest in the often-overlooked, short-lived 352/360 horsepower high-performance Fords from the 1960 model year. Tom, I know you're looking down and reading this, so here was a real treat from The 2016 Muscle Car & Corvette Nationals last weekend in Rosemont IL, an original 352/360 Starliner you would have drooled over:

Tom explained his interest in those cars and engines in his March/April 2008 column in the now-defunct Legendary Ford magazine. Typical Tom Shaw passion and insight, for sure; i.e., "[Ford's new engine] made the competition look like rope-start lawnmowers." (Almost Tom McCahill in writing!)

RIP, Tom; it was a joy to know you. The best of wishes to your family.

    Godspeed, all. Bob Palma

In reading this, I'm not even sure what to say. Devastating news.

Reading Toms work from years ago (1980's) and then getting to meet him in person a few years ago, I can say Tom's work reflected his personality. His ability to tie American Muscle Car culture to the American psyche of the times was amazing. Nobody could wrap all that into an article or essay like Tom.

I consider myself lucky to have known of him.

The kindness and perspectives he showed me, my son, and PSD Nation, is something we'll cherish forever, and selfishly miss.

Godspeed Tom Shaw... A self forged American original....

For a Ford guy he was awfully accepting of our Buicks. I met him once when he was photographing a 1971 GS Stage 1 and a friends 1969 GS400 (they both were published). This mortality thing gets old. Thank you for your contributions to our hobby & RIP Mr. Shaw. You sincerely will be missed.

Boy, it is awfully hard to find the words to express our surprise and sorrow to hear this. Last I saw, Tom was was home and on the mend. Just terrible news. Tom was special to us in Stude land as he treated us with the utmost respect as he did EVERYONE. Sure puts a damper on going into these holiday seasons.

Thoughts and prayers to Tom's family and friends of which there are MANY!

I'm at a complete loss for words. This was totally unexpected as we though he was on the mend. If the epitaph to a man is how many will mourn his loss then he was quite a guy. He'll definitely be missed by everyone at PSMCDR and elsewhere.

Tom's hobby was making music. He learned a few years ago that I work in the music business as an audio engineer.
Tom would ask me my opinion about music gear he was using. I had a few good conversations about that with him.

Sad to hear you had to leave to soon.
I'm going to miss his sharp eye behind the lense and his way with words on the last page of Muscle Car Review every month.
    RIP Tom.

I've known Tom from the EARLY Musclecar Review and Pure Stock days. The originals. My background is in computer networking. As a manager, I had "a little time" for pet projects. So back in the 90's, I pitched an idea to Tom when the Internet was getting hotter and hotter about writing an article for MCR about web-based musclecar "stuff". That's when I started writing a column called "The Web Page" in MCR. Tom was a kindred spirit. He will be missed. And Bob Palma is right -- he took the time to make sure that the accuracy about our cars was correct. THAT's a journalist !!

I've never had the pleasure of meeting the man. But, Tom's well written articles/stories I have had the pleasure, as a former MCR subscriber, of reading. R.I.P. Tom.
