Anyone who wonders why he is considered a war hero should read the book "Flyboys" by James Bradley. He was part of the flying force that went island to island in the Pacific toward Japan. What those pilots endured was truly shocking.

    Godspeed President Bush.

Like all of him, none of him or anything in between, one still must admit he was a gentleman.

May he enjoy the peace he fought for and earned for himself, and all of us.

My favorite memory of him was a news conference when some young female reporter ask him about apologizing to Japan for using nuclear bombs. The political polish vanished and the old warrior answered. "They wont get one from this president. They shot down my airplane."
Whether you agree or disagree with his policy he led a life of service to country we have seldom seen.
    Flags to half staff please.

I wish he would have spilled all the beans on his death bead about the Kenedy assination.

I always liked him, if not necessarily his politics. Not sure he could have gotten elected without riding Reagan's coattails -- he was not super charismatic -- but he was very intelligent, knowledgable, and a good man through and through who devoted a lifetime of service to his country.

Had CNN on all day in the background and between football games and they have done a wonderful job of re-living his service and life. They have a show on '41' tonight at 8:00 PM EST, 7:00 PM Central which I will record as we will be out for dinner. This morning CNN had some wonderful interviews and testimonials from folks who worked with him or under him in the Presidential years and before and after. Since he was my congressman in Houston he helped me get info from the Air Force about my waiting to hear if I was going to be accepted in the Officer Training program after college graduation in 1967. I have two letters from him we saved and framed that are real keepsakes. I did join the Officer Training program in 1968 and served my four years and returned to Houston in 1972 and followed '41's career after that.

He was a rare individual who gave most of his life to public service and a wonderful family. RIP:)

One of the last true statesman. He could see both sides, he could compromise, and he could be graceful in defeat. That's not politics anymore. We need hundreds like him in our Congress. There is no compromise anymore from either side.
