You're absolutely right--if GM doesn't survive, tons of jobs will be lost. Maybe that $15/hour min wage is a good thing?
Hate to see an American company has been slowly leaving to China. Especially after tax dollars bail them out. Video said statement was made in 2011. Previous admin did the bailout. I wonder how old this report is.? I was looking . They going to have to pay to bring their product back in the USA I would think. Thought that was the deal to bring company's back. .I never knew. Ug , real sad.
Agreed. Would you prefer to sell to a market of 350 million or to a market of 1.5 Billion? (That ain't a really hard decision).
The same thing has been happening to Hollywood for the last couple of decades. Hollywood goes out of its way to flatter Chinese audiences, attempting to penetrate that enormous market, often in utterly embarrassing ways. When is the last time China was portrayed in a bad light by a Hollywood movie? I can't think of a single example from this century. The irony is that American movies don't do all that well in China.
It used to be said that a market of 1 billion people with no money is not a market. Obviously things have changed. But still, Americans have far more disposable income than Chinese - As much as the Chinese economy has grown spectacularly for the last 30 years, most of the country remains poor and undeveloped.
Although Americans do have significantly more disposable dollars, The Chinese GNP is growing at about 3 1/2 times the rate of the USA. I don't have the ambition to dig out the numbers, but I'll bet that the distribution of wealth in China is not all that dissimilar to the US. What that means is that although there are likely still a huge number of Chinese living a subsistence life, there are plenty with mucho dinero. As has been mentioned several times on this forum, Buick sells more cars in China then it does here.
Yep. A 2017 trip to Shanghai was a real eye opener for this guy. One of the locals was quite amused when I confided my cold war high school beliefs about China to him.
431Km/hr . The cars banked into the curves. They had to. It was the legendary Mag Lev made in Germany but located in located in Shanghai. We took it to the airport to catch a flight back to Seattle.
