No nothing to worry about.... your good. just as long as they are not way out of wack... like 150 180 140 180 ....stuff like that 5-10 is not too bad. ALL depends on the age of the motor too. NONE will be exactly the same.

Seems as the motor has a decent amount of compression to do the job with any duration cam up to 230 duration... smaller the cam duration and higher the lift combo will make more low end torque larger cam duration and lower lift makes less torque low end. CAM center line will give the power band and over all peak torque and HP output over that RPM range.
IE 114 lobe separation will give a wider power band from like 2000-6000 and make 295HP over the complete range(more street friendly)but a 106 will give a tight band and more overall peak output... 4000-6000 and make 325hp over the range (drag race application) so you can see a bit more output but not a very wide range.

The more compression will just enhance the the cams power making.
High compression and smaller cam will make more heat at idle - lower compression and large cam duration will make for lower power and torque output... and make the motor run cool.

Same with the heads, larger chamber heads, larger runner heads will make less torque low end and the same with the carb also... ALL the items that control air flow heads, carb, headers, dished pistons, large valves...will SLOW DOWN air at low end creating sluggish torque output.

That is why we use BIG torque converters 3500-5500 for drag racing.... everything under 3500 rpms is all garbage performance... because THE POTENTIAL OF GREAT POWER AND TORQUE IS IN THE UPPER rpms... BUT WITH the capability of breathing it will SACRIFICE LOW END PERFORMANCE

You need to compromise to know where you want to use the car or truck.

So hopefully some of this info can help in picking a cam spec better for your use.

God I must not be doing anything tonight.... :)

Thanks! If you not doing anything equals me benefiting, I'll take it! :)

I'm wondering if my dynamic compression isn't around 8.2 according to the equation on this link that relates gauge pressure to effective compression ratio?

My gauge pressure around 170 psi, and atmospheric pressure at 14.75 psi here. That gives me a CRE of 8.2 psi, which I think is dynamic? Static will likely be low 9s then?

With the throttle cable and bracket replaced, and getting the secondaries to open up, adding 20% race fuel, my times were quite improved, even with street radial tires.

Times below are with the CK secondary needles ( 0.0527" stage 1), rather than my CD needles (0.0567") . On average, the CK averaged 0.08 seconds quicker and 0.3 mph faster than the CD needles.

Also, my average speed increase from the 1/8 to 1/4 with CK needles is 17.72mph and with the CD needles, it's 17.80mph. Both seem a little low, like I should be closer to 20mph, from what I recall from other 14-15 second cars. The car does seem to shift quick from second to third on its own, but I ran out of time to try shifting myself, as it was only a 1/2 day of testing.

I'd like to try the AX needles as well, although they are quite a bit narrower at 0.0397" and may be quite rich.

With sound on, you can here the quick shifting from second to third of the TH400 transmission.

Mickey Thompson 255/60 r15 street ETs on the back now. Get to try them out at the track on Sunday. They feel good on the road. This old couch is moving faster and faster.

Don't make it to fast, people won't be able to see that beauty so good if it goes by as a blur. :eek2:

    Nice car!! :TU:

Ha! Thanks Derek.... No worries about it being too fast. Hoping for low 14s this weekend.

Although.... Every month my goal for time decreases. This car was a 17.8 second car last year. Changed the distributor, added posi, fixed the Qjet secondaries and I'm at 14.8 at 92 mph now with skinny street tires. This was only possible because of the guys on this site and their expertise.

If I keep it above 14, my daughter can race it when she's 16. I'll worry about that day later, she can race with secondaries that don't open ;)

In the mean time, I'd really like to get into the 12s some day on pump gas and stock appearing. Just a fast street driven vehicle that looks stock. A fast and comfortable couch that beats camaros, mustangs, etc.

Able to get down to 14.43 this year. Sticky tires on now. AX needles rather than CK, may have hurt me?

Unfortunately it was packed at the track and was only able to get off two runs before the eliminations started, so I never got to put the CK needles back in it.

60 foot time seemed consistent at 2.10 to 2.14 seconds.
