    Hello all,

Looking for some advice on gear ratio for my sport wagon.

The car is approx 4400 pounds with at 12 bolt out of a 72 heavy chevy Chevelle. I am running the 3:31 that came with it.

Feels a little tall for drag racing, but a nice gear on the street.

Have ran 12.4 at 104 with slicks. Still running the stock fuel lines for the 350 that came in the car originally. I am installing large lines and a good electric pump.

The motor is a stage 2 aluminum headed motor built by Jim Burek. The Dyno sheets show the motor making peak hp 594 at approx 5800 and max torque at 4000.

The tranny is a switch pitch 4000 stall.

My questions are: Would I gain much by going to a lower gear? 3:73, 3:90 or maybe a 4:10. I dont do any freeway driving and just play on the street with the car with about 2 vists to the track each year.

    Thanks,

    Dennis

You would probably only gain about .2 in the quarter going with a 3.73 gear and maybe .3 with the 4.10 gear. If you mostly play on the street, you may want to leave it unless a low timeslip is what you're really looking for.
