I have the same question. I am loving your work!

It's the machining set-up time. That would require three different set-ups as opposed to one. It all comes down to how many times you have to handle the part, which increases time(cost). As I've said, no CNC equipment is involved in this. This is all being done on a manual Bridgeport milling machine. With a CNC, there wouldn't need to be as many set-ups, but the programming costs and scheduling machine time at a shop that would charge more to run these parts because they would be small quantities. CNC's make their money doing large runs. Getting a shop to schedule these in would be tough.

I brought it up because I want everyone to know why it's being done the way it is. I don't want anyone to buy a set and then be upset that the pocket shape is different. As it is, the difference in the shape of the pocket is barely noticeable, especially if the grooves are there., but unless you pointed it out to someone that it is different, they probably wouldn't notice.

I haven't put the grooves in my set yet, but as soon as I get time early next week, I will get some updated pics then. I will also try to do the reflector pocket and round off the edges.

I hope you guys will be patient with me. This kind of stuff takes time.

A CNC machine would/could make quick work of these. great prototype. knowing the milling and set ups it would be pretty easy to hand this over a
a billet CNC machinist. Maybe pop out 40 pieces, yes?

The big question is..how many sets are you all buying? I know I will get a set but seriously Jim needs a count to be able to determine whether this deal is a one time deal or just the beginning of a future part to be made

I think another big question is, what will they cost? We need to know an approximate cost before anyone commits to buying. :Do No: :dollar:

Agreed. Once we have estimated pricing and final specs (grooves and reflector pocket, etc.), I can then make a decision. Great work so far!

Thanks for the interest in this project. I'm going to hopefully setup and run another pair next week sometime from start to finish to get a better idea on the time it'll take. When I started this, it wasn't really my intent to make any more than just my set. It wasn't until I was more than halfway done, that I thought I could maybe make a few more sets, so I really wasn't keeping too close a track of time. I've got a pretty good idea on what it would take, but nothing's nailed down yet. I will get back to you guys here when I've got more info.

    Thanks.

hard to believe they are cut by hand, with no CNC...really a nice looking piece

Good to see you again Mark. Thanks for meeting with me about the parts I bought from you. Good stuff, as usual.

Thanks for the good words about the prototype bases. As soon as time allows, I'll run another pair and nail down a price on them.

I apologize that I haven't been able to get any more info out. I haven't been able to get the time to get back on this.

I will try to run another set as soon as I can.

Thanks for your interest and patience.

Unfortunately, life got in the way and I haven't got back to this yet. My car should be finished in the next couple weeks, and there may be a possibility to get back to them.(hint, my avatar is my hood)

If I do get back on these, they will have the grooves on one side only, so if you flip them, you get either groove side up or smooth side up. No reflector pocket. And no rounded corners. Just can't figure a cost effective way of doing it, would have to be hand-blended, and then no two would be alike.
