Does anybody have a good source for the heater box to firewall gasket? This is for a 1970 Estate Wagon with A/C.

I just replace the heater core, and I might have to reuse the existing gasket (it's not in horrible shape), but for as much trouble as I went to to get the core out, I would just as soon get a new gasket as well.

I've tried the following with no luck:

    Napa
    OReilly
    Cars, Inc. (OldBuickParts.com)
    Steele Rubber

    Thanks for any help/advice.

If you're talking about the box outside the cabin (inside the engine bay), I believe the "gasket" was 3M strip caulk.

I second what Scott states. All I have ever found on these was the strip caulk type material. It fits in the groove.

I didnt have that caulk on hand. What I did have was some left over windshield sealer ribbon. Rolled it out to the correct size and layed it on there. worked perfect.

The ONLY problem with the "ribbon" is IF it ever has to come apart again for some reason. IF you come across an outer heater box better get it while you can.

Actually I did have it off earlier this summer. The coper tube coming out of the heater core cracked and had to pull it for repair. It came off without much issue.

Thanks for the replies. Actually, I was talking about the heater box inside the cabin, under the dash. This box currently has some kind of rubberized foam gasket, around 1/4" thick. As I mentioned, it's not in horrible shape, so I may just reuse it. I have the same sort of gasket around the box that surrounds the evaporator on the engine side of the firewall.

Hmmm. Does anybody out there think new strip calk will be superior to old gasket? These gaskets are old, but they're still fairly bouncy and flexible.

    Thanks again for the thoughts!

Go to lowes or home depot or what have you and get the adhesive backed foam gasket stuff on the roll, they have several different thicknesses, densities and colors black, gray mostly. Get it wide so you can keep the joints to a minimum as you'll need to trim it to fit the shape of your box really can make turns with it
