just removed the tank, replacing the sender/float, all new rubber lines. and in the process of cleaning, but its not looking good, any suggestions on paint? really didn't wanna do black, was thinking silver, or zinc, or??? NOT a show car, but an cleaning painting everything I touch, and to think, all this started over a gas stain, ( was worried about a leak)
Im assuming its the 87 Regal in your avatar? If its a nice car, why not just get a new tank? A new Spectra Premium tank is $120 on Rock Auto.
tank is out of 72 skylark, tank is good cond, just funky ........ 87WE4, is done, 425 Rwhp, 440 torq. and V6 ! lots of boost and Alky. after untold amount of $$$$,
The tank for your Skylark is about the same price and it comes alloy coated. Looks sharp! At this point, what's another $130?
lol, lol, I keep saying that, "what another $100" lol for a supposed to be budget build, sure has spiraled out of sight. but,,, you may be right,
I used some left-over Krylon Chrome-Aluminum; has actual metal flake in it. I was accused of buying a new tank. LOL. I should take a picture of that.
I've used silver header paint on my 65 Ford & 69 Skylark, looks pretty good to me; after a couple years I brought a new one for the skylark.
well, wire brushed it, pressure washed it, wiped it down with thinner, and shot a coat of satin silver on it, let it cure, and probably another coat or two, I looked inside, it was spotless, so did n't see the need for a new one,
That looks great! I was hoping to do the same to ours, but we dropped the tank today, poured out the 3o year old gas and found the tank wasn't worth saving. A new one is on the way...hopefully it will look as good as yours!
I gave thought to buying a new tank, but after looking inside, why? my tank has couple small dents/ dings, so? its not like I'm building a show car, I use krylon "satin silver" its not like alum silver, looks more natural , I use it on small brackets, bolt heads, etc, where I got tired of " everything black" I actually did my new disc rotors (where the pads do not hit) to keep them from rusting. post up your results, please.,
If it’s not a show car undercoat it like many gas tanks were back in the day and don’t worry about the finish.
