Thanks very, very much Wayne....these pads will hold up much better than the originals due to their construction IMO.

Also---the 71 up cars apparently didn't have these pads put in BUT, in the interest of another shameless plug, if you want something between the tank and the underside of the floor on a 71+ car I think these could be trimmed back to the point where you would not see the edges of the pad...sort of a "stealth pad" for the later cars.

Finally, if you are going to add weight to one of these torque monsters we have this has got to be one of the best places to do it (low and back by the rear tires):3gears: ...put in a pad and remove a few pounds off the front end to make up for it. OK, enough sales pitch for one evening. Thank you.

On a later application (ie 71, 72 car that didn't have one installed at the factory) another thought crossed my mind when discussing it with someone for a 71 GS. There is a wire from the gas tank sending unit that runs to the back of the car.....

    >ON A 1970 or earlier car (cars that originally had a pad installed) you can look at the pic below and see what the install should look like....the factory installed the pad ON TOP OF THE WIRE

    >If you want a more "stealthy" look as mentioned in my post above you might consider cutting a slit or small hole in the pad where it sits on top of the sending unit and then running the wire ON TOP OF THE PAD. That way, unlike the earlier "factory look" applications, the pad won't sit on top of the wire and will settle down onto the top of the tank--thus remaining more "hidden". As already suggested for the "stealth installation" the pad would be cut back and hidden but running the wire on top might be a good finishing touch.

Patton, Excuss my ignorance but I've taken apart a 71 skylark and 72 gs and neither car had a gas tank pad. I'm getting ready to mount my new tank under my 71, is this something i should be putting in? Sound deadning or what? thanks Gord

Gord--I mention that in my first post on here. Many cars did not have these installed and it looks like it probably was stopped by GM sometime early in the '71 model year. If you are doing a concours type resto (for judging) on a '72 then I would say "No..don't use one as your car didn't have one originally".

On a non-concours judged car it's completely optional and your choice. GM discontinued using it...was it cost cutting?? or was it decided the cars were just fine without them?? Who knows:Dou:

It's more of an anti-rub or anti-squeek deal IMO....not a heat insulator or anything like that. Again, when the tank straps are snugged up against the bottom of the tank the tank "ain't goin' anywhere" so I doubt you'll have any squeeks or rubs without one (again..GM didn't think so, or maybe GM's beancounters didn't think so!). I think the assembly manuals just describe them as "insulator" which leaves it open to interpretation as to WHY they put them in.

I offer this item primarily in the interest of making the cars appear like they did from the factory. Sure, it also ads weight (not a lot)....but if you're going to add weight you might as well do it back by the rear wheels !:3gears:

I have had reports of people dropping their ET's by over half a second just from adding one of my Gas Tank Pads. 60 foot times are incredible also!!!:Brow: :Do No:

Let me know if you have any other questions and thank you. I pm'd you on shipping. Thanks
