Looking for a good quality gas tank for my 70 GS. Mine has 2 lines.
Last time I checked they did not come with the filler neck.
    Can anybody recommend sources?
    Thanks

Nick, I purchased a tank from Quanta Products. I believe Spectra and Quanta are the same and are made in Canada. One distributes and one company manufacturers. I just went to their website and tried to find a tank for a 1970 GS and it did not come up, then I used their search for a series 34 tank and I think that the one that says it is for a 1969 will fit a 1970 and has a shorter neck.http://www.quantaproducts.com/prodinfo.asp?number=GM-34C ,

I purchased a different 34 model and will have to either shorten the neck or use my old from my old tank.

I measured my tank, its about 12 inches long right from the tank to the opening. What length is yours?

Thanks Marcos, I am not thinking of carefully removing the original tank,
the build sheet might be up there, I hope it is!....
THen I can hopefully remove all of the undercoating (YUK) and I might be able to resue the tank, I really don;t think the tank is leaking, I am getting a few drips out of one of the vent lines (I think) and once we get the tank out we will be able to tell where its leaking. A friend just did that with his 70 lark tank...Since these tanks are supposed to be gavanized they should last forever..Right?
    thanks

I got an excellent price for a Quanta tank from Rockauto.com I think the part number for a '70 is GM34B

Ended up getting a tank from a local shop through a friend at NAPA.
Price was 209 but the filler neck is about 4 inches longer then the original.
The only thing that I am unsure about is in the service manual they show a diaphram inserted into one of the vent lines, anybody know what this diaphram is for or what is made of? Do I need it? Maby that line just needs to be plugged?

    thanks

    Nick,

If the filler neck is 4" longer than original your fuel door will not close. Why didn't you order the right tank from Rockauto and save money and get the right part?? I gave you the part number. I got mine in two days and it is exactly like my original.

    Good luck with your project,

    Matt

Matt: You are correct, I could have saved money by ordering from rockauto,
I was so busy at work I must have missed your post...
So if this one I bought locally does not work out, then I will call them at Rock auto. Thanks for the info!

I am now looking to replace my original tank with a Quanta this Spring. I saw Quanta up at the Carlisle show, told them I had a 70 GS 455 conv, but they still asked how many tubes my tank has. It would be very nice if I did not have to remove the tank to find this out first! Does anyone know if the GM 34T was used for all 455 non-CAlifornia GS cars? I have an early 70 with AT. Otherwise, how many vent tubes should I tell them?

Does anyone have experience with the Quanta sending unit and tank holding straps? Do you know if their straps look stock? I would greatly appreciate the advice! Otherwise I will get them from a Buick source such as CARS.

By the way, if anyone is looking for a Quanta tank, they offer show discounts! In my case, I will buy directly from them since they are a local company.

Are you seeing a surge tube at the end of one rubber vent line and calling it a diaphragm?

Get under the car and take a look at the front area of the tank where the lines come out and count how many vents. As far as tank straps, my recommendation would be to clean up your originals and re-use them. They are galvanized. Just clean them up with some steel wool. They are nicer than any repro made

Thanks guys- I will checkout the vent lines when I get the car on a lift in the next couple of weeks. Jason; thanks for the tip for cleaning up the old straps. I always prefer to recondition original parts where possible. I will also take the opportunity to replace the rear brake line that we could not replace unless the tank is removed. With any luck, the tank sticker will still be in tact!

Getting ready to replace the tank- will pick up new one next week! Does anyone know the correct color for a stock tank? They come in silver- I think it is nickel plated. Should I leave it as is or paint it before installing it? Also should some material (gasket) be applied between the tank and straps? I was also thinking of replacing the strap bolts with new stainless bolts.
