My small block 72 GS gas gauge has failed off scale high. Checked connections and the fuse. Suspect sending unit? Any ideas ? Regards, Upstaged in SW Michigan
Unplug the tan wire connector (located in trunk) and ground the tan wire that's going back to the gas gauge. Turn the IGN on and see if the gas gauge goes to empty. If it does, everything back to the gauge is good.
It will do that if its grounded out. The post that goes through the top of the sending unit is insulated by a fiber washer. Mine failed due to age and let the post make contact with ground.If you find thats the case I'll tell ya how I fixed mine.
