I bought this for ME My wife is calling it her 30th Birthday present. I am ok with that LOL We found this by accident when we were looking at another Roadmaster for a buddy of mine. I made the deal happen this last week, but the snow storm the started Friday night and ran all through the weekend killed my plans to pick it up. I hope to pick it up today. It has been painted and looks really good. Upholstery has been replaced. Correct seat material, but dash pad is not quite the right grain, and headliner is not correct material. I can handle that for now, as it is clean and well done. Transmission has issues and it needs a full exhaust system. That’s all I know for now. To be continued!!
Very nice!!! I'm sure it will serve her well and you two have fun together working and enjoying the car. Congrats!!!!
That thing oozes class!! Tell Mrs. Smarten I said she has fine tastes in classic Buicks! Her taste in men on the other hand.....
I dug into the supposed transmission problem today. Jacked up the rear end and spun the wheels....this is what I heard: It sounded like it was coming from the u-joint just ahead of the rear end, so I yanked it out this afternoon. That's always a fun job with a torque tube. When I got it out, I spun the wheels by hand and watched the end of the driveshaft...it only moved a little bit. So something is broken between there and the pumpkin. Off came the torque tube and driveshaft. I found the female splines that slip over the splined shaft on the pumpkin are pretty much completely stripped out. Good thing I have a parts car here.
Thanks, Keith! I hope so...I'd like to get it to OKC this year. I was hoping to get Lance's 57 Roadmaster 75 done for OKC as well, but he is having second thoughts on going due to it being Father's Day weekend. I don't want to rush it, either, being a BLACK car.
Sheer luck, Jim. Lord knows how much fun that would be to find if I didn't have one here. The only problem is, the parts car is still drive-able. I'd like to keep it that way. I'll have to rig it up enough to lot drive it.
