Had one. 1970 4 Door Thunderbird. I never seen one of these before or since. Had to sell it to fund my regal project. Bought it for 300 bucks, MSD ignition, foot gas pedal, 11:1 429 and all. I was the king in highschool driving this thing. For some reason, the previous, previous owner (guy I bought it from just bought it to flip it, in over his head) had really nice 2.5 inch dual exhaust with an H pipe and thrush mufflers installed, but no donut gaskets on the manifolds. So the thing was basically running open manifolds for the longest time. And the 600 holley that was on it was so blown out (and probably a super worn out timing chain, possible burnt valves) it popped like a mofo even after fixing the carb. Always started without a fuss though. Even stone cold in December.
Love my Buicks but love funky AMCs. Would like to have a 78 Pacer Wagon with the faux wood paneling and a 304. Another would be a 75 Gremlin X with the Levi's interior. Love the oddball AMC stuff!
It would have to be one of these; (1951-54 Mercedes-Benz 220) or one of these... (1957-61 Borgward Isabella TS Coupe) I'd happily trade off one of my convertibles for either one of them, or, a nice 1959 Invicta hardtop... Yeah, I know, ain't ever gonna happen...
Funny you mention the Levi Gremlin. I had a '74 that I took n trade on a Fiat X19, in 1977. I worked at an auto broker and the company could not own vehicles, so we would often buy any car that had to be sold to buy our brokered vehicles. I was just talking with friends about how I wished I had kept it. It had the 'hard as rock' Goodyear Polyglas white lettered tires.
My version of funky (and fun). I want one just for the heck of it (yeah, they were a mechanics nightmare, but a blast when they ran like they were supposed to).
It's weird when you are a car guy and your with a bunch of dudes somewhere and you see something driving by nothing crazy and you say hey did you guys see that car it was a whatever it was....and they just look at you like whattttttt..
Ok how about this one I bought my daughter who just got her license not to long ago a 89 Hyundai excel hatchback with only 33 thousand miles on it... why... because my mom had one when I was a kid and you just don't see them anymore..she does get thumbs up while driving the car..I have since put wheels N WHITEWALLS on it and found a lebra for the front end...now does this make it funky
I would like to have an M422A1 "Mighty Mite" Jeep. I had two of them when I was in high school & college. Should have kept them but I sold them to help buy my 69 SS396 Chevelle...
My parents had a 1980 Grand Marquis they bought new and put about 15,000 miles on in ten years. My mother sold it after my Dad passed away because she thought it was too big, and bought a 1998 Buick LeSabre, which wasn't all that much smaller. The Mercury handled like a boat and had a 460 that guzzled gas, but I would say all in all it was a better car than the Buick, which couldn't get out of its own way and always had something coming loose or falling off it.
