While updating the fuel tank on my 68 custom , I have 2 tubes on top- passenger side of tank that had 2 hoses approx 5" in length upward. After installing the new tank with 2 new hoses in the same location, I have a strong gas odor( w/ only a gallon of gas in car) in garage overnight. I was reading about a fuel tank vent valve, that my car didn't have. Would this solve my problem & where would it attach ? My chassis manual on mentions " 2 rubber hoses held in position vertically . Thanks in advance guys.

A surge tube has two nipples, one for each vent hose.

The plastic vent is sold as a reproduction. You need something there besides just hoses.
