I thought I read that Stage 1 fuel pumps the bottom can area was suppose to be painted black. I can’t find where I read that. Am I crazy or is this true? The GS standard is it suppose to be black as well or gold cad?

Are you crazy? Aren't we all?:D If anything, I would think they got painted with the rest of the engine, Buick Red.

I just talked to Duane. he told me that the fuel pump was bolted to the engine before they painted it. They had a masking cup that fit onto the bottom part of the fuel pump (the cad plated part), and the aluminum top of the pump would be painted Buick Red. Same for the distributor. The mask fit over the cap, and the distributor from the tube down would get painted, even the bottom part of the vacuum advance canister. He also mentioned the water pump. They had a mask that covered the nose and fan/clutch flange to avoid getting paint where it might affect bolting up the fan/clutch. Hope that helps.

I just took an original one off (didn't pump) . Here is a picture. It does get painted red with the bottom covered up.(most of the paint had flaked off the top part of the pump, but it was red) IMG_20200101_195046350.jpg

Thanks guys. I guess I read wrong somewhere. I’ll leave mine natural.
