I am going to help my older brother install the new engine in his GSX in a couple of weeks. We need to update the fuel delivery and need input or suggestion. We are thinking about putting a Holley blue max pressure fuel pump regulating it to 6 psi at the fuel log with a return line at the by-pass regulator. Will the pump pull fuel from the stock fuel line going into the tank and were is the best place to mount the pump or does it need to be pulled from a sump off the back rear of the tank. This is going to feed a 950 Campbell Competition Holley style carb on a 462 cu. in. street motor. It has TA Track Eliminator heads that have been work over with a roller cam and matching assemblies. It made 600 torque at 4200 rpm and 604 HP at 5600 on 93 octane pump gas.
My suggestion, the factory pickup tube might be an issue. Mcrobb makes a larger pickup that you can get good size an fittings on both feed and returns Electric pumps are better pushers than suckers so mount the pump as close to the tank as possable. I would try to mount the regulator back there too..........saves fuel line return........I would do the largest feed to pump as you could get, perfered 10an, but 8 will work, dont go too small on the return line.......it can make a restriction causing inaccurate pressures. I personally like fuel logs by the carb, I think they are a cleaner look than 2 feed hoses........I would go to at least 7 or 7.5psi instead of 6............those heads are going to want to run on top end so dont go short on the fuel system. I personally would want more pump than that........something more like the hp 150. It's also quite than those other design. Holley #12-150 Your planning a return system so let it flow back.......you want want to go lean on top end than for sure
You need a baffled tank and submerged pump setup especially if using a 3/8 line with that setup Holley has the complete setup for around $585 iirc opt it with the 340L pump , then you will need the Aeromotive efi to carb regulator its around $220 but this will allow to have trouble free fuel delivery with no fuel slosh problems and will also work perfectly if he ever decides to go to a FI setup,..which I would consider myself
