Front tires RUB when turning and dipping on inclines!! QUESTION!!!

Ok, recently replaced all 4 tires and rims with 17x8 rims and 245/50R-17 tires all the way around. Both look good, but when I turn sometimes going up or down a incline, I hear a slight clank from the front tires rubbing. What kind of shocks, coils, etc. should I get to solve this problem? I am sure nothing has been replaced in about 14-15 years, so it definitely time to take care of it and also solve this problem.

Let me know what everyone thinks!!!

    Thanks,
    Brian

Well, the size wheel and tire you selected should have almost the same diameter and section width as the original G60 x 15 or the replacement 245/60 X 15 so, it's likely your front end is sitting too low and/or your front shocks are worn out.

It would be helpful if you would tell us what car you have and post a photo of it from the side so we can see how it sits in front.

I have 255 60 15's on all corners of mine.. and occasionally I will get some rubbing on the right bump or turn. Its rare though, so having 245's should have no issues if the offset/backspacing is correct.

This is on a 71 Buick GS/skylark. I will take some pics over the weekend and get them up here.

I would assume your backspace on those rims are 4.5 to4 3/4? which meansyou have the right amountof backspace
spc 1inch drop springs will work while raising your frontend over the worn stockers along with giving you a nice firm ride to help on the twisties.
You can get a set of 4 springs from scandc.com for 289 pls shipping or maybe show their add to summit and price match
as for shocks id go with bilstein hp1000 mono tube gas shocks or even edelbrock ias shocks

Looks like the fronts stick out a little too much.
You might try removing the inner fender bolt right at the top of the tire. Sometimes that's all it takes.
Worked for me on a previous car.

..............and by the way.....that car looks GOOD.

Nice looking car !! Looks like the wheels are out a bit much. What is the backspacing on those wheels ?

I've got really similar wheels, and if it's anything like mine they rub on the bottom inside corner of the driver's side inner fender. It happens so rarely that I've just learned to live with it.

Backspacing are 4.50 on all of these rims. All rims are 17X8 mounted on 245/50R/17 tires. In person, the tires/rims are not stuck out like everyone seems. I can't really tell what I am hitting on, but its always when I turn and dip into a driveway, etc.. Think I should deal with it or would shocks make a difference??

It might be the inner fender I am hitting, don't know all I hear is a clank!!!

First, I would find out exactly where they're rubbing. Look for shiny bare metal, maybe the bolt heads on the inner fenders. I really don't think shocks will solve the problem.

Where are you at in Chicago? Are you bringing your car to the Chicagoland chapter GSCA club show in Countryside on the 4th?

I'm in the Woodridge/Downers Grove area. Haven't decided if I am bringing my car to the 4th of July show. I usually stop up there even if I don't bring it though.

Ok, checked out my car and noticed what it is rubbing on. Looks like when ever the front end dips any direction(coming up or down inclines), the front tire rubs on the front fender bottom outer lip when the wheel is turned. Its perfectly fine with it when I am driving straight. Once I got the car on a flat surface, I went to the front end and I can bounce it pretty easily and the car sort of does a wave side to side. Do you think shocks will fix this? I have to check my records later and see when they were last changed(I think its been a while). Here are more pics of the how the car sits, etc...

I dont think shocks will fix it. I would try to figure out a way to modify the spot on the fender edge where it's rubbing.

How can I modify the fender edge? This is the fender edge that has the chrome trim on it. How are people running bigger tires then this and not rubbing or hitting on the lip?? Its not like I went crazy big for the fronts, I just wanted to have all the same size tires and rims on my car.

Shocks will not help with the dipping, etc?? I can turn just fine with no rubbing as long as the front doesn't dip.

You could try loosening the lower fender bracket bolts and pulling it out a little bit.

Any other ideas on why this might be doing this?? See the pic below, you can see the front of the tire is close to the front fender bottom lip. I can turn the tire without hitting it, but once the front end dips at all, it hits.

    Let me know!!!!
