I will be rebuilding a timing cover for the race car and I checked out your lists and have one tomorrow at O'Reilly's but I called Autozone and he came up with Timken 710163 and it was only 7 dollars. He had to order it and said he would take it back if it don't fit. Anybody tried that one?

Fred said that one was tighter to install than the other. Anybody seen that?

I had a seal made for the Buick BB timing cover TA1514. Mainly for the reason that you mentioned here. The seals out there just fit to tight. Also the timing cover seal bore is not straight sides, they tapper in which crushes the seal as you press it in and dis forms it. I know it cost a little more money but were not making 10,000 at a time. I just purchased a rear main seal for a Ford 460 which is what we use in some of the new aluminum BBB, that seal cost me $70.00 + shipping. Now that's expensive.

    Mike,
Is that the Kaase one piece seal ? Have you used one ?
    Thanks, Eric

    Eric,
No, the TA1514 seal is a stock replacement seal for the stock 455 timing cover. The one piece Kaase seal is for the rear main on a Ford 460. Yes, I have used one, takes two people to install a crankshaft with it. So far it has worked great, little pricey though. Little over $70 by time it was at my door.

Ahh. My bad Mike. I had rear main seal on the brain all week.
Didn't mean to hijack the thread.
